DH loves the name Holly and at the moment we have a few alternatives. I'd like to be able to use this name as it means so much to him but the way my mum says the name really irritates me! She drops the h and pronounces it as Olly and I hate it.

Would it bother you or am I over thinking it?

It would bother me.

I had a client read her email address out to me recently, she said [email protected] - not hotmail, that annoyed me!

Me and my DP are struggling for names. One we both like is Anya but I pronounce it 'Arnya' and he pronunces it as 'Ann-ya'.

How often will you see him mum?

If it bothers you, you either need to discuss it with your mum explaining that if upsets you. Or find a different name.

Is dropping the H a regional thing where you are? If so, it won't just be your mum doing it!

My Dad does that and he adds them where he shouldn't. It's so weird. For example, Holly would be Olly, but Olly would be Holly.

It won't be only your mum doing this. Lots of people drop their h's. If it really annoys you then 'H' names are not for you. Also avoid names with a 'th' or a 'tt'. 'th' becoming 'f' and 'tt' being dropped completely are also fairly common (although probably area dependant).

Yes it would bother me. I'm all for nn. They're more friendly And down to eArth. But I hate misspronounciTions

I speak to my mum every day so sadly I think it would be too much.

It is a regional thing but she's the only person I'm really aware of doing it. I've spoken to her about it and she will make an effort not to but she soon slips back into doing it again.

Dh is really keen on Henry for a boy so I don't think he's going to be very happy when I declare H names a no go
