Thoughts on Tallulah

Is it a bit of a marmite name? Ok for a child but not an adult? DC1 has a slightly unusual (never met another one) but not whacky name, it's often a suggestion on these boards, so it's MN approved Smile

My little girl was almost a tallulah, I love it.

I'm pregnant with another little girl, I seem to like it more when I'm pregnant though, maybe it's the hormones.

BanKimoon · 21/03/2015 07:11

I like it but a wouldn't use it as I'd worry about coming across a bit try-hard. I think you have to be quite whimsical or seriously posh to really pull it off and I'm neither! If someone else used it I'd be a bit secretly jealous though!

Heels99 · 21/03/2015 07:19

I like it but yes it is marmite. Agree it does sound a bit like trying too hard to be different could you have it for middle name?

ScrambledEggAndToast · 21/03/2015 07:23

Sounds like a fairy.

bakingtins · 21/03/2015 07:27

My associations are the little girl in Milo Armadillo (nice one since it's one of my favourite picture books) and my Mum used to refer to girls as 'a right Tallulah' if they were being a bit princessey/spoilt. I wouldn't use it personally.

I wouldn't thank my parents if they had named me this.

I love it!! It would go very well with my boring surname. I think with anything other than a dull as Dishwater surname it might be a bit try hard.

flanjabelle · 21/03/2015 07:49

Could be shortened to tally which is nice.

Stinkersmum · 21/03/2015 08:00

Bugsy Malone springs to mind immediately. Don't do it.

MaudeLebowski · 21/03/2015 14:03

It is definitely marmite. I think it is horrible.

Bugsy.

KaffeOgGulerodsKage · 21/03/2015 14:07

Terrible. It only ever had appeal about 12 years ago when a lot of actresses used it, all within months of each other.

I prefer Tamara

KaffeOgGulerodsKage · 21/03/2015 14:08

tally ho! let the hounds out.

"nice"?

SevenEleven · 21/03/2015 14:14

Another one who is reminded of that song in Bugsy Malone! 'My name is Tallulah....'

excitedmamma · 21/03/2015 14:15

Well I love it and so does my lula bell

Alisvolatpropiis · 21/03/2015 14:42

I like it. As long you don't spell it Taloola.

iliketea · 21/03/2015 14:44

I love it.. Dd is often called tallulah (as a nick name, not like her actual name at all!). But I wasn't brave enough to use it..

HandMini · 21/03/2015 14:45

Terrible - the connotations are:

Miniature nightclub hostess in Bugsy Malone singing questionable come-to-bed songs; or

Spoilt little Verruca Salt stamping her foot with curly pigtails.

ShatnersBassoon · 21/03/2015 14:53

I too imagine a spoilt brat.

MishMooshAndMogwai · 21/03/2015 14:57

Will only ever make me think of the cool runnings quote...."Ha Tallulah! Sounds like a $2 hooker!"

Sorry...

On the other hand I had a lovely pet rat named Tallulah off the back of that quote so yanno...

lemonyone · 21/03/2015 14:59

Stripper name.

Would put in the same category as 'Cinnamon' or 'Desire' (yes, two names i have heard).

SunnyBaudelaire · 21/03/2015 14:59

yes I like it , in fact I nearly called dd this until my friend told me that the only Tallulahs he knew were the crazy little girls with unbrushed hair running round the playground screaming. I am sure he was generalising slightly, lol.

glittertits · 21/03/2015 15:00

I hate it. Prissy, sickly and tacky.

SunnyBaudelaire · 21/03/2015 15:01

oh yes and then if you google 'Tallulah Bankhead' it is slightly offputting apparently she managed to bring the entire Eton sixth form 'into disrepute'
