Freya - any other ideas?

I'm overdue with DD and had pretty much settled on Freya Emily, but have just found out we can no longer use it. Only other name on my list was Florence, possibly with mn Eve or Emily again. I'm not sure I like it as much though as it's a bit formal and very popular round here.

Does anyone have any ideas of other names I might like? We have a one syllable surname so it needs to be reasonably long. Please help save me from making a hormonal rash decision! Smile

I have a Freya - her sister is Helena. Some names we either considered/ couldn't use or are sisters of other Freya's we know ( there are quite a lot of them out there, so personally I wouldn't worry about using it unless it's a v close friend or relative that's used it...)

Holly
Rosie/ Rosa/ Rosalie
Anna
Laura
Martha
Louisa
Elizabeth/Libby
Charlotte
Esme

Oh and Florence was on our list too, I think it's a lovely name - I just couldn't find any nicknames I liked. Or could you have Emily as a first name?
Best of luck x

manicinsomniac · 18/03/2015 11:56

Glad you like Florence pasta, I was thinking about using the nn Flora, if that's not too big a jump

Flora is lovely!

Justyouwaitandsee · 18/03/2015 12:37

Oops - posted too soon. What about using just Flora on its own?!

BlueChampagne · 18/03/2015 18:53

Another vote for Flora

Crumblevision · 18/03/2015 18:55

I have a Freya. Nothing would have convinced me to have picked another name. Why can't you use it? I don't mean that rudely - just curious?

Blahia · 18/03/2015 19:02

Frida!!! (Or Frieda) I love it so much!

BrambleBee · 18/03/2015 20:21

crumble because a friend has just named her baby Freya, it would be a bit weird to use the same name now.

Thanks for the votes for Flora, I was thinking that using Florence as the full name would give the best of both worlds - a longer formal name then lots of nn options for DD to use if she wanted.

Firmly don't like Freya.

What about Fern?

Wassat · 18/03/2015 20:25

I have a Claudia- lovely name

Mamabird3 · 18/03/2015 20:28

I think Florence is a lovely name, it was on my list when I had dd but dh didn't want it, we now have an Eva whose nn is Effie (I know it's not shorter haha) nicknames for Florence could be flora (which is lovely) flossie, flo, florrie etc.

Crumblevision · 18/03/2015 20:38

Ah ok Bramble. I love Florence. Good luck, have a sneeze birth Grin Thanks

BrambleBee · 18/03/2015 21:05

I knew a Raya once but you might think it's to close to Freya.

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 18/03/2015 21:17

I have an 18 year old Freya Emily!
How about Fleur?

DianeLockhart · 18/03/2015 23:39

I love freya

My vote goes to flora as a good alternative

burgatroyd · 19/03/2015 17:29

Freya and Florence too popular for my taste.

Prefer Flora.

How about Constance (Connie) Harriet (Hattie)?

ashesandfire · 19/03/2015 22:14

Freya was on our shortlist along with Sophie. In the end we went with Bethany partly because we love nn Beth.
Also love- Elodie, Anna, Alice, Louisa, Lydia, Eloise, Sylvie, Clara, Charlotte, Celia, Cora, Francesca, Rosalind, Anya, Nina, Naomi.

verelab · 21/03/2015 15:01

Another vote for Flora!

Lovely name and surprisingly underused.

I would go for this rather than Florence n Flora. Quite a lot of Florences out there at the moment!

Similar-sounding names: Laura? Leah? Gaia?
Or what about Fenella?

Underwood2013 · 21/03/2015 22:10

I like the name Flora but is it wrong that I keep thinking of the spread with that name?? Smile
