Really can't choose a name for DS2, his brother is Alfred but only ever called freddie. We like slightly granddaddy sounding names and middle name will be Charles as its a family thing. Here goes... Pitch in if you have a favourite...

Arthur
Basil
Bertie (Herbert was my grandads name)
Edmund
Ernest (ernie)
Rafe
Barnaby
Ron

A couple of these sound really dumb with freddie (freddie and Eddie!/ freddie and Ernie doesn't do it for me) my faves are barnaby (barny) and dh's fave is Rafe but I think it's severe sounding with our single syllable surname. Arghhh! We've started calling bump 'he who shall not be named' !

I like Arthur or Basil. How about Cecil?

MurielWoods · 13/03/2015 16:17

Rafe is lovely Grin

BikeRunSki · 13/03/2015 16:21

Arthur and Rafe are quite popular, if that is any concern.
Bertie and Rob are abbreviations iny mind.
Of the rest, I like Edmund.

Allalonenow · 13/03/2015 16:22

Rafe is totally fab.

Also like Edmund and Basil, and Bertie.

Not at all keen on Ron or Ernest

NadiaWadia · 13/03/2015 16:27

Edmund is nice. Barnaby is quite nice, but very little boy, can't imagine a grown man called this. It's similar to Timmy or something like that. Barnabus? Rafe is quite nice, but terribly posh.

Not Ron! Are you joking?

Iloveonionchutney · 13/03/2015 16:27

Bertie is fab, I like Rafe too.
Or Albert (Al), William, Henry

TheoriginalLEM · 13/03/2015 16:29

i like edmund shortened to ed

QuietNinjaTardis · 13/03/2015 16:29

Arthur or rafe. They were on our short list before I found out I was havin a girl.

madmother1 · 13/03/2015 16:30

My cousin has twin boys. One is called Alfred and the other Wilfred. She refers to them as her "Freds" which I think is adorable!!!

mamaslatts · 13/03/2015 16:30

what about Stanley?

frankienoodles · 13/03/2015 16:32

Yes I should have written Ronald and Herbert instead of the nns we would likely use! These are both my grandads names but I'm not sure how I feel about that! Don't want to be too bum licky to one side of the family iyswim!

Cecil always reminds me of a 'baddie' for some reason! Though o can't think of a single example so that's just me! Thanks all, Rafe is a contender though I'm worried it will sound odd as our surname is single syllable (smith) I may aswell say it as there are millions of us! And the Middle name has to be Charles so it's all a bit blunt sounding?

Arthur's my fave!

florascotia · 13/03/2015 16:34

I like Herbert - for Bertie there is also Robert (simple but sadly overlooked), Albert, even Cuthbert.
As previous poster said, I like Arthur and Basil
Other old-but-good names:
Peter
Roland
Gerard
Harold/Harald
Humphrey
John
Cedric
Siward
Wystan

I think Ralph/Rafe/Raphael is currently quite fashionable (at least on these pages) and therefore likely to date.

frankienoodles · 13/03/2015 16:34

Mamaslatts... We love Stanley but a 'Stan smith' is a type of trainer and that messes with my head!

ajandjjmum · 13/03/2015 16:35

Leonard - with Lenny or Leo as nn?

Like Arthur. Smile

GoooRooo · 13/03/2015 16:35

I like Bertie.

DS has Ernest as a middle name - after DH's grandfather. I wasn't keen on it but it's grown on me.

Felyne · 13/03/2015 16:36

Herbert
Stanley
Derek

Chillyegg · 13/03/2015 16:37

Aww i love basil!
How cute

Felyne · 13/03/2015 16:38

Oops, cross posted becaue it takes me ages to type a reply...
Stan Smith is also the Dad out of American Dad, isn't he?

SoonToBeSix · 13/03/2015 16:40

I have a 13 day old Arthur who is scrumptious so I am biased towards that name Smile

SoonToBeSix · 13/03/2015 16:41

Also love Stanley.

MrsFlannel · 13/03/2015 16:46

Not on your list but what about Seth? I love that.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 13/03/2015 16:49

Barnaby is my favourite.

How about Bertram for a 'bertie' name?

ButEmilylovedhim · 13/03/2015 17:02

I think Bertie is lovely. Could be a Robert for full name?

MrsFlannel · 13/03/2015 17:06

I can't see "Bertie" as a grown man somehow...it's too cute.
