Really can't choose a name for DS2, his brother is Alfred but only ever called freddie. We like slightly granddaddy sounding names and middle name will be Charles as its a family thing. Here goes... Pitch in if you have a favourite...

Arthur
Basil
Bertie (Herbert was my grandads name)
Edmund
Ernest (ernie)
Rafe
Barnaby
Ron

A couple of these sound really dumb with freddie (freddie and Eddie!/ freddie and Ernie doesn't do it for me) my faves are barnaby (barny) and dh's fave is Rafe but I think it's severe sounding with our single syllable surname. Arghhh! We've started calling bump 'he who shall not be named' !

We definitely have a v similar taste in names, my DC1 is due in August and on my shortlist is:
William
Alfred
Henry
Barnaby

What about Charles as a first name?

Other suggestions:
Jasper
Rafferty
Rufus (my favourite but DH says no)
Felix
Hugo

Can I ask, do people try to call your Alfred Alfie?Alfred is no. 1 for me at the moment and nn would be Fred/Freddie but I'm worried that people will forever call him Alfie?!

Meant to add that I think Bertie is an adorable name but I'm not sure it works for an adult. I know a Bert and it always feels like a bit of a cute name still.

i have a Ron/Ronnie (byron) I love it! Didn't like Ronald tho.

Love Ernest, Arthur is very popular now but still lovely

Benedict is a different one to consider?

Sophronia · 18/03/2015 16:33

How about Leonard (Leo/Lenny) Clarence (Clarry) or Clement (Clem)?

Sophronia · 18/03/2015 16:34

Rafe Smith is too abrupt I think.

Laurie Smith sounds fab.

Love the name but we didn't have a boy.
