Really can't choose a name for DS2, his brother is Alfred but only ever called freddie. We like slightly granddaddy sounding names and middle name will be Charles as its a family thing. Here goes... Pitch in if you have a favourite...

Arthur
Basil
Bertie (Herbert was my grandads name)
Edmund
Ernest (ernie)
Rafe
Barnaby
Ron

A couple of these sound really dumb with freddie (freddie and Eddie!/ freddie and Ernie doesn't do it for me) my faves are barnaby (barny) and dh's fave is Rafe but I think it's severe sounding with our single syllable surname. Arghhh! We've started calling bump 'he who shall not be named' !

Love Ernest, might consider it for my DS due in a few months ??. I think Freddie and Ernie is fine?

How about Theodore nn Ted?

SoftSheen · 13/03/2015 17:10

Edmund or Arthur.

NOT Basil or Ron!

Maursh · 13/03/2015 17:14

You could have Randolph or Ranulph if you don't like the single syllable-ness of Rafe - Rafe as a nickname

SanityClause · 13/03/2015 17:19

Herbert was my grandfather's name, too, so that getsy vote.

He was always called Bert, but I went to school with someone whose nickname was Herbie (based on his surname) and that would work, too.

Cuthbert is lovely, or what about Gilbert?

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 13/03/2015 17:19

Arthur or Bertie

I prefer Albert or Robert to Herbert, though.

Bernie /Bernard is also good

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 13/03/2015 17:20

Basil might end up as "Baz" which is awful (I think)

Allalonenow · 13/03/2015 17:25

I know a lovely Bertram who is often called Bertie.

frankienoodles · 13/03/2015 17:26

Thanks everyone, now liking Rafe more and Bertie and Arthur too, Ron hasn't gone too well! I guess you're not Harry Potter fans out there! ;-) with my first DS we couldn't think of any names we liked, now with this one it's almost like there's too many!

Gilbert could also be Bertie

Ztastic · 13/03/2015 19:01

Archie

ForkieForkie · 13/03/2015 19:20

Arthur is a bit too popular for me but I like Artie which doesn't seem to be used much.

Seasidedolly · 15/03/2015 21:15

Our Bertie is due 3 weeks tomorrow! Family tradition, full name will actually be Robert but will be known as Bertie.

Strangely, his middle name will also be Charles. :)

larry5 · 15/03/2015 21:26

I have a Robret who is known to everyone as Rob. My grandfather was always called Bertie but his name was Bertram followed by Randolph and Herman which is why I didn't use any of his names for my two boys.

Cookiesallforme · 15/03/2015 21:31

I love Bertie . Fabulous name.

I also like Rafe too from your list.

Good luck OP :)

af2000 · 15/03/2015 21:35

We have an Arthur! Obv totally biased, he is cheeky and chubby and gorgeous Grin we had absolutely no idea it was becoming a popular name when we picked it, my husband just said 'what about Arthur' the day before he arrived!

I would also absolutely love to have an Albert or a Barnaby. I honestly don't know if I have a bias towards the 'old man' names but I love them!

VioletVelvet · 15/03/2015 21:43

Arthritis my favourite from your list. Love Bertie too.
What about Walter or Sidney?

ragged · 15/03/2015 21:48

(I love Alfred, well done you).
I don't like your other choices, but fwiw, Raymond & Edgar are also top of my secret faves.

1stBabyQuestions · 16/03/2015 00:06

What about Theodore? I love the whole name but also the nn, ted, teddy, theo...

Kit (also one of our choices until we found out baby was a girl)
Henry
Patrick
Keir
Sidney
Arthur (artie,art?)

Stinkylinky · 16/03/2015 10:29

Nephew who is 2 is called Albert, everyone always comments on how much they love his name

FragileBrittleStar · 16/03/2015 10:33

Edward
Leonard

love gilbert though

thedoodlebug · 16/03/2015 15:47

Basil is an amazing name!

MaudeTheMopLady · 16/03/2015 16:34

I have a Stanley Arthur and IF he had a brother he would be called Freddie short for Wilfred or Ned short for Edward (or possibly Lucien or Billy or Ernest!) Loving Ron and Herbert on your list. I know an incredibly attractive Ron in his thirties....

pinkgirlythoughts · 16/03/2015 17:37

My DS1 is Freddie (short for Frederick). DS2's middle name is also Charles, and his first name is one that's been mentioned several times on this thread (although not one of your choices!) From your choices, I loooove Arthur (and will still push DH for it a third time if we end up having another boy!) and also Barnaby/ Barney.

OurGlass · 16/03/2015 17:39

Percy? Lenny?

GoldfishSpy · 16/03/2015 17:41

What about Edward nn Ted?
