Boys
Cairn
Cameron (the PM has kind of ruined this for me)
Dallas
Finlay
Kyle
Scott
Sean
Skyler

Girls
Afton
Augusta
Acacia
Aphra
Ailish
Amber
Arianna
Autumn
Anya
(I like 'A' names!)
Blossom
Bonnie
Brooke
Bronte
Caoimhe (pr Keeva)
Chantal
Carmen
Ceilidh
Heather
Hazel
Ivy
Lara
Marina
Maya
Rhiannon
Ryan
Skye/Skyler
Sacha
Stacia
Saskia
Savannah
Saoirse (pr sawrsha)
Tara
Verity

We have Scottish heritage so keen on a name that reflects this.

Surname not decided on but may be long but well known & easy to spell.

DCs 1 & 2 have quite run of the mill type names, which I regret in retrospect do we want to be a bit more adventurous this time.

I like the idea of a gender neutral type name but a lot of them are quite American sounding and not well thought of.

Brooke - ok
Bronte - not a fan
Caoimhe (pr Keeva) - not a fan, and isn't it Irish rather than Scottish?
Chantal - really don't like
Carmen - really like, nice and unusual

Heather - quite like
Hazel - really like
Ivy -really like
Lara - quite like
Marina - quite like

funnyface31 · 10/03/2015 10:51

Love Finlay and Arianna best from your list.
Not really keen on any of the others except Lara.

manicinsomniac · 10/03/2015 11:56

I love 'A' names too.

Boys
Cairn - I've never heard this as a name. Nice enough though
Cameron - I like it. Wouldn't think of the PM necessarily.
Dallas - Not keen
Finlay - Love it
Kyle - Not keen
Scott - It's ok
Sean - not keen
Skyler - quite like it but I think of it as a girls' name.

Girls
Afton - literally never heard of this. Don't think I like it
Augusta - don't like it
Acacia - quite like it
Aphra - love it
Ailish - it's ok
Amber - really like it
Arianna - quite like it
Autumn - like it
Anya - love it
Blossom - not keen
Bonnie - it's ok
Brooke - quite like it
Bronte - love it
Caoimhe - love it
Chantal - really don't like this
Carmen - like it
Ceilidh - as in the dance? Didn't know it was a name?
Heather - quite like it
Hazel - like it
Ivy - like it
Lara - love it
Marina - not keen
Maya - like it
Rhiannon - love it
Ryan - for a girl? Not keen
Skye/Skyler - really like Skye. Skyler is fine
Sacha - like it but thought the girl version was spelled Sasha
Stacia - never heard of this. Is it Stay-cee-a? Quite pretty I think.
Saskia - like it
Savannah - love it. I have a 12 year old Savannah.
Saoirse (pr sawrsha) - not keen
Tara - it's ok
Verity - love it

For me, it would be Finlay for a boy and Aphra, Bronte or Savannah for a girl

wigglesrock · 10/03/2015 12:21

I'm not really fussed on the boys names although I do like Sacha from your girls list for a boy. I like Anya, Caoimhe is a little old fashioned for me, I went to school with quite a few, it was old fashioned then. If you like A names and are willing to take a risk with pronunciation what about Aisling? Carmen is nice, I know a baby one, it's very cute.

MonstrousRatbag · 10/03/2015 12:27

SimplySara · 10/03/2015 16:35

My favs from your list would be Kyle (this one is definitely off trend at the moment but I think it is a lovely name - he would have a unique name for his age and one that will probably come back into fashion in 15 to 20 years meaning he would probably be a trendsetter.

For girls, I like Saskia a lot.

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 10/03/2015 16:49

Not super keen on any if your boys list except Cameron (& yy I would also be put off by the Pm!) have you considered Rowan as a gender neutral name?

Of your girls list i like Heather, Hazel, Ivy, Lara and Tara. Also maybe Fern?

NadiaWadia · 10/03/2015 16:50

Of your boys names I only really like Finlay. It's very popular right now though, I think?

From your girls' names I like Anya, Lara, Marina, Maya (so long as it's pronounced My-a, as it should be!), Rhiannon and Saskia. Saoirse is lovely, but I thought it was pronounced 'seer-sha'? Savannah is OK, but much prefer Susanna/Susannah.

florascotia · 10/03/2015 17:57

Not keen on any of your boy's names I'm afraid.

Not too keen on most of your girl's names (sorry) - re the rest:

Afton - rather nice; as I'm sure you know, it's the name of a river celebrated in a poem by Robt Burns
Augusta - fine
Ailish- Gaelic for Alice; sometimes spelled Eilis or Eilish (same pronounciation) which I prefer
Blossom -nice but perhaps a bit twee
Chantal - OK if spelled properly (as you do), but still has aura of alternative yewneek spellings which people have judged and do judge
Ceilidh - this is a rather drunken party with trad music and dancing. Did you mean Eilidh, Gaelic for Helen?
Heather - OK
Hazel- OK
Marina - nice, but not if linked to Marine LePen in France
Rhiannon - nice if you are Welsh/living in Wales and can say it in the proper Welsh way
Ryan - boy's name and a surname

TempsPerdu · 10/03/2015 18:34

You have quite a collection there! Really sorry, but I don't like any of your boys' names - just personal taste though. From your girls' list I quite like:

Afton - actually really like this; it's unusual and strong. How about Arden/Rowan/Robyn, which are in a similar vein?
Arianna - pretty - possibly a bit too girly for me though
Anya - pretty, a nice twist on Anna.
Bronte - went to school with a lovely one
Carmen - good mix of classic and unusual
Hazel - nice. Sweet but not too girly
Ivy - granny chic but cute. Becoming popular though I think?
Lara - feminine but strong
Marina - lovely
Saskia - very sassy!
Saoirse (I'd say Seer-sha though)
Verity - lovely

Jackieharris · 10/03/2015 20:17

Thanks for all the feedback!

I think I'll have to do a spreadsheet to work it all out.

With girls names the problem is that there are so many I love. Dd has 2 middle names because I couldn't choose just one!

With boys names I hate everything that's popular atm, especially the kind of names that come up on mn threads.

DS has a name that never comes up on here.

akorda · 10/03/2015 21:00

I love the name Cameron! Not v keen on the rest of your boys' names I'm afraid.

Girls' names: I love Aphra - beautiful and unusual. Lara and Marina are also gorgeous (Marina has great shortenings too - Mari/Mara/Mary)

If you like Scottish names, what about Flora for a girl. Or Keir or Lorcan for a boy?

notthesameatiteverwas · 10/03/2015 23:09

I love Aphra and Verity

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 10/03/2015 23:25

Of your boys list I only really like Finlay. Have you considered Reid or Rhys?

Of your girls list I love Saskia, Ivy, Amber, Autumn, Savannah and Arianna.

Jackieharris · 11/03/2015 13:23

It seems Cameron for a boy

And Lara, saskia, hazel aphra, Savannah, marina, verity, arianna and carmen for girls are the most popular.
