Love love love it, but not brave enough to use it myself. Big northern lights fan

turquoiseamethyst · 08/03/2015 22:39

I have never read it although I was vaguely aware of the character. I just like how it sounds and the meaning :)

Like it; says northern lights to me too, which is a good thing!

BossWitch · 08/03/2015 22:42

Ah if you've never read it - are you religious? Christian in particular? The northern lights series is very, very critical of the church, so if you are religious at all it would be a bit of an unfortunate choice!

turquoiseamethyst · 08/03/2015 22:43

No - not especially! :)

But we are a very musical family and also love everything about the Ancient World and the constellations!

It makes me think of the Northern Lights books but it is a 'real' name as well. As far as the connection with the books go Lyra is the heroine but her name was partly chosen because it sounds like 'liar' which was one of Lyra's skills in the book. And like a PP says it's very critical of organised religion and the view that innocence and childhood is the perfect state. So you might want to bear that in mind.

Siennasun · 10/03/2015 20:41

I love it. If we'd had a girl she would have been Lyra. It's a beautiful name and I love the meaning - both the constellation and the Northern Lights connotations.

akorda · 10/03/2015 20:43

It is a lovely, lovely name - such a beautiful lyrical sound. I have only met one little Lyra and doubt it will ever be over-used. Go for it!

Elllimam · 10/03/2015 20:46

Gorgeous name

Marcipex · 10/03/2015 23:20

I know two in nursery. I like the meaning, but I've already heard Liar liar pants on fire...so not if your DD is likely to be sensitive to chanting.

johendy · 11/03/2015 22:16

I loved this name then started trying it out loud - it sound like Laura when I say it. So it came off the shortlist as it sounded dated not modern. If my accent didn't ruin it, I was really keen - a proper but uncommon name.

pilates · 11/03/2015 22:24

I like it.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 12/03/2015 19:51

Love!!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 12/03/2015 19:55

I know 8, yes 8 born since Christmas! It seems to be very 'now'.

Fumnudge · 12/03/2015 20:11

I adore it, also love Sira (same pronunciation), less linked to Northern Lights if it's a problem.

Falconwolf101 · 16/03/2015 17:55

BRILLIANT, mine is Lyra!

FoodPorn · 16/03/2015 18:24

I don't like it.
