Argh! Baby names!

I'm 37 weeks and wobbling about all of our name choices, with DD we were so sure, and I just can't "settle" on a name this time! DD is Elodie (we are not French - although some french in my family way, way back

  • just my all time favourite name) and I'm not too worried about a matchy-matchy name. But I guess her name indicates what we like. We don't know the sex of the baby.

Here are our short lists:

Boys:
Fabien (pronounced the French way, rather than the socialist society way) - I really love this name but am worrying that it's a bit poncy / will be mispronounced.
Caius
Cassius
Corben

Girls:
Beatrix
Lucille
Seren

Any other suggestions? I feel like I've gone round and round and round...

If you can't stand the alternative pronounciation I'd skip it. It will be a pain to correct and you might come across as a bit tight.

Cassius is beautiful and so is Seren.

MsQueenie22 · 02/03/2015 17:17

I love Corben and Lucille.

florascotia · 02/03/2015 17:23

Fabien - nice name and I don't think poncy. You'll just have to keep telling people which pronounciation you prefer.
Caius - more pronounciation issues here. Will it be 'Keys' or 'Ky-us' or 'Guy-us'?
Cassius - perfectly good name, just not my personal taste.
Corben - usually a surname?; reminds me of the Scots word 'Corbie' (= crow or raven). But if you like it, go for it.

Beatrix - great
Lucille - really pretty. Will you say 'Loo-seeyul' or 'Liu-seell'?
Seren - lovely name and meaning and understandably popular. I also like the (unrelated) 'Serena'.

Fabien is definitely my favourite if your boys names.

I love Beatrix. Lucille is pretty- much nicer than Lucy. What about Lucia? Not keen on Seren but like pp's suggestion of Serena.

Celeste
Estelle
Simone
Astrid

I love Fabien.

OutragedFromLeeds · 02/03/2015 20:17

Fabien - It's a good name, but it is poncy to ask that it be pronounced the French way when you're not even remotely French.
Caius - nice
Cassius - nice
Corben - too surnamey

Beatrix - what do you call a woman who can balance a pint on her head?
Lucille - ok
Seren - lovely

llamallamaredpyjama · 02/03/2015 20:18

Love love love Corben. Go for it!

Sophronia · 02/03/2015 20:32

I like all the girls names and I like Fabien but I prefer it spelled Fabian.

BadIdeaBear · 02/03/2015 21:22

Corben and Lucille would be my top choices from that list.

StayGoldPonyBoy · 02/03/2015 21:24

Seren is on my girls list, too Smile

Love Cassius, not a fan of Corban.

BlueChampagne · 02/03/2015 23:06

I like Fabien and Corben. How about Conrad?

Seren is the only name I like from your girls list. How about Meredith, Rhiannon, or Kerenza/Carenza?

ScaryChicken · 02/03/2015 23:25

Yy to Fabien being poncy & prone to mispronounciation. Ditto Ciaus.

WittgensteinsBunny · 03/03/2015 10:58

Prone to misspelling too, scarychicken Wink

We wouldn't be insisting on saying it with a french accent. Just saying Fab-ee-un rather than Faye-bee-an, hence using the french rather than british spelling. But after talking to DH we've decided the mispronounciation thing will probably get too irritating. So I reckon that leaves us with Cassius and Corben. DH is leaning toward Cassius (nn Cas) and I think I am too.

Girls names still undecided. We love Lucia too. So I'm adding that back to our list...

How about Florian?

FatSwan · 04/03/2015 13:53

I love Lucille.

I'd say I like Cassius with Elodie...lovely name.

TremoloGreen · 04/03/2015 14:48

I like Cassius and Beatrix the best

ScaryChicken · 04/03/2015 15:40

Ha ha, yes! Blush

WittgensteinsBunny · 05/03/2015 06:45

Tremolo me too. I love the name Beatrix and I think we'd use nn Trixie. It goes well with our chosen middle name too. Cassius and Beatrix are definitely looking like our front runners now. Just 19 days until edd....
