I am 25 weeks pregnant and cannot decide between the two names as I love them equally. Help, which one do u prefer?

Well, Dallis is just made up and awful, Effie is nice as a nickname

Floggingmolly · 25/02/2015 14:32

Dallis????? Effie sounds quite weird as well, sorry.

gembickerdike · 25/02/2015 14:37

Not made up, they are Scottish names!

I posted on your other thread OP.

I like both Smile .

I think Dallis might be misinterpreted but love Effie. (Reminds me of the cool chick from Skins)

Jemimapuddlemuck · 25/02/2015 14:43

I think people might think Dallis is Dallas misspelt (though I don't know how known it is in Scotland, I'm English and I've never heard it).

latenightworker · 25/02/2015 14:43

If you are going to use 'Dallis' then at least spell it the more common way ('Dallas'). I went to school with a Dallas, can't say I love the name though.

chipsandpeas · 25/02/2015 14:44

I'm in Scotland and never heard of dallis....also I love Effie but it's more of a nickname to me

Nocturne123 · 25/02/2015 14:44

Love Effie

Jemimapuddlemuck · 25/02/2015 14:51

I quite liKe Effie as a nickname for Josephine (then she has option of Josie too, which I also like!)

ginmakesitallok · 25/02/2015 14:53

I've lived in Scotland for over 20 years and have never heard dallis

kilmuir · 25/02/2015 14:53

both equally awful

squoosh · 25/02/2015 15:06

I'm in Scotland and know two Scottish women called Dallis. Both in their thirties I'd say.

squoosh · 25/02/2015 15:07

I think I prefer Dallis as Effie sounds like air being let out of a balloon rather than an actual name.

ClementineAndCordelia · 25/02/2015 15:08

Effie is gorgeous - it's pretty much my favourite girls name ( scroll back to my post titled ' Effie or Ezra ' for loads of opinions on Effie)
Most people on these streams will only think it's acceptable if you give her a more traditional name and use Effie for short, but I disagree with that . I think Effie is far more beautiful than Elizabeth/ Euphemia etc . Go for it !

florascotia · 25/02/2015 15:08

In Scotland, Effie was traditionally short for Euphemia. Very old lady name - perhaps now becoming granny chic. But - as so often said on Mumsnet - a full name rather than short form ('ie' ending can look very babyish) on birth certificate gives so much more choice when DC become adults.

Also in Scotland, Dallas (that spelling) was traditionally a place name, then it became used as a boy's name. It is occasionally used for girls, but why? And I wonder whether people will automatically think 'Dallas, Texas' ...

GatoradeMeBitch · 25/02/2015 16:05

Dallis sounds kind of masculine to me, or at least unisex. But then I like boyish names for girls. Effie sounds very feminine.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 25/02/2015 16:08

Can't say I've heard of Dallis but I've heard Dallas on Suburgatory so thought of her straight away. I'm not too keen on it but to me it sounds better than Effie. The only Effie I know uses it as a nn for Sophie

Sophronia · 25/02/2015 16:10

I prefer Effie as a nickname for something longer, Elizabeth maybe.
