Bee-uh-triss.

treaclesoda · 10/02/2015 14:48

I would pronounce it Bee-uh-triss too.

It might be my accent though eg my accent doesn't 'allow' me to put an 'r' in a word where it's not there. (I'm using the word 'allow' just because I can't think of a better one). And if I said Bay-triss it would sound very unnatural with my accent too.

Bee-uh-triad - I love it! And the nickname Bea!

flowerygirl · 10/02/2015 14:49

I would pronounce it Beer-uh-triss too

GoooRooo · 10/02/2015 14:50

Bee-uh-triss. It's on my list Smile

AnythingNotEverything · 10/02/2015 15:43

Thanks! I do love Bea ...

Beer triss. That is how my grandmother pronounced her name.

BrockAuLit · 10/02/2015 15:59

Beyer-triss

squoosh · 10/02/2015 16:00

You must be v. posh Brock.

(or foreign).

VenusRising · 10/02/2015 16:06

I'd pronounce it Beyah trees
I also don't put an r in a word if it isn't there, because it's incorrect and sounds shit

Well proper I am, sat here on me plinth.

They don't actually add an extra 'r' but as they don't pronounce the 'r' a the end of 'beer' that's why they use that word when explaining their pronunciation of Beatrice.

If that makes any sense!

squoosh · 10/02/2015 16:11

'I'd pronounce it Beyah trees'

I've never in my life heard that pronunciation, where are you from?

soontobemumofthree · 10/02/2015 16:12

Bee-a-triss

Jacksterbear · 10/02/2015 16:13

I'm guessing those saying "Beer Triss" have the type of accent that does not pronounce the "r" at the end of "beer" - ie in which "bee uh" and "beer" would sound the same!

rinabean · 10/02/2015 16:13

Beer-triss

Jacksterbear · 10/02/2015 16:15

Oh x-posted with squoosh!

niceandwarm · 10/02/2015 16:25

I can imagine loads of mumsnetters sitting here, saying:

Bee-er-triss,
Beer-triss
Bay-er-triss
Beer-triss

AnythingNotEverything · 10/02/2015 16:27

Sorry yes - Bee-uh-triss.

I'm northern. There's no r in beer.

SoupDragon · 10/02/2015 16:38

Bee-er-triss
Beer-triss
Beer-triss

I would say these three are all the same, differing only by regional accent.

CaptainAnkles · 10/02/2015 16:39

Bee-uh-triss

Zsazsabinks · 10/02/2015 16:47

I would do Bee-a-triss. My DH (Portuguese) would say Bay-a-treesh
