Names like Laura?

I like Laura - in terms of it being Classic, but underused right now - but can't use it.

Equally I like Sophie, but worry it's too popular at the moment!

Any other suggestions? I was one of four in a year and don't want anything 'out there' but not something where they'll be known by 'Firstname Initial-of-Surname'!

Probably a naming holy Grail, I'll admit...

Laura is a bit weak somehow. Or in my mind it suits a wafty sort of soul. Sorry to the Lauras.

I say if you like Laura, use it. Sod it - I didn't use my favorite name because an acquaintance who lived nearby had used it on her small DD but then we moved 6000 (yes 6000) miles away when my DD was 1 year old so we could have used it after all...!!

And as you say, Laura is greatly underused in the UK. Its lovely.

Decca does sound posh but it is also very very cute so I would say use it anyway.

I love Laura. I would have thought Decca is a name that would come about because of a toddler not being able to say Jessica properly.

Jackieharris · 08/02/2015 09:29

I think of Laura as an 80s name so others would be

Sarah
Rebecca
Melissa
Amanda
Gemma
Natasha
Martina
Nicola

I have a Louise, am of the age where it was the middle name of 50% of my school friends but we love it. She gets called Lou-Lou or Lollipop.
I never realised quite how under-used it is, 200 and something the year she was born (2013).
DD1's name has been mentioned upthread as well, we definitely have a naming style.
