Not for me but for a friend. This is their front runner at the moment, but apparently some minor celeb has just used it and they're worried about popularity.

Also any general opinions on whether you like the name, and why, would be appreciated.

Love it . Rafy for short :)

Moher · 05/02/2015 22:15

It's truly awful, sorry. I don't think your friend should worry too much about popularity.

Alyx80 · 05/02/2015 22:42

It's my son's name so I obviously love it. Have only ever got positive reactions too IRL.

ourglass · 05/02/2015 22:43

I love it!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 05/02/2015 22:49

Martine McCutcheon just used it , Jude Law / Sadie Frost also have one . Doubt it will explode all over .

I'd immediately think they were big Gerry Rafferty fans. Too surnamey - fine for a middle name but not as a first IMHO.

Zsazsabinks · 06/02/2015 08:08

I think there are a few creeping up, but I don't think it's in any way becoming common. I liked it as a boy name, but was just put off by the fact that it's a surname that I have no connection with...and that I have girls, although I'm sure I heard of a girl called it the other day!

Raphael could also be shortened to Raffy.

exapplekid · 06/02/2015 09:25

Thanks all. I'll pass it on after the thread has run its course. I'm of the opinion they should still use it if they want to. Though it's not my personal taste. It feels a bit trendy.

It's surname that C list celebs name their kids.

seaoflove · 06/02/2015 13:35

It is a very "celeb" type name. I also find it a bit frilly sounding for a boy (I don't particularly like frilly names on girls either!)

RL20 · 06/02/2015 14:19

Sorry I'm not a fan. Wasn't aware that a 'celeb' had used it but even so it's not really a name I like

Sunnysideup5883 · 06/02/2015 19:24

I adore it!! With nn rafe

flowerygirl · 06/02/2015 21:17

I love the name! It's a bit complicated sounding to become common if that makes sense.

I believe Sarah Beeny has a son called it too Grin

MamaLazarou · 07/02/2015 09:54

Fine, as long as the baby is born with a top hat, a monocle and an air of ridicule.

HedgehogsDontBite · 07/02/2015 09:59

This is what it brings to mind for me:

Hobbes8 · 07/02/2015 12:56

I love it but it almost rhymes with my surname. We called the bump Rafferty for a while to amuse ourselves, but she turned out to be a girl anyway.

Rhubarbgarden · 07/02/2015 22:23

I don't like it. It sounds like a comedy name to me.
