We did 'named together' and we only agreed on 5 girls names and no boys name!

Someone on another thread mentioned the 'named together' website where they give the top 500 names and you each get to anonymously tick which ones you'd consider.

There are a few names I like that weren't on the list but from the list our only matches were:

Aria
Caoimhe (pronounced Keeva, where we live this would be less of a problem)
Harper (it's a family name)
Piper
Willow

No boys names at all!

Looking through it together ones we both don't hate, but have reservations about are

Noah
Joshua
Ronan

I find boys names really really hard. We don't agree AT ALL. We used Named Together and found one match for a boys name so we're going with that if we have another boy - but neither of us is overwhelmed by it.

We only had one girl's name too - but it happens to be the name we'd already picked if DS had been a girl so happy to have it!

Bump

Any opinions/ideas?

I love Ronan for a boy.

Other boys names -

Rohan
Tiernan
Caelan
Darragh/Dara
Oisin
Aidan
Liam
Carter
Harris

Aria - nice but people will think you've named her after a GoT character (who might turn out to be a baddie)
Caoimhe - okay
Harper - very Beckhamy although you could pretend it was to celebrate Harper's Lee new novel!
Piper - really don't like this, reminds me of 'plumber'
Willow - love this

Noah - good solid name, super popular at the moment though
Joshua - it's a bit 90's and bit overdone
Ronan - one of the weedier Irish boys names, I prefer something like Cillian or Cormac

What about Saul? It's biblical like Noah and Joshua but far less common.

shakemysilliesout · 05/02/2015 21:16

What about Noi?

I think Aria is just terrible.

Any family names you like?

Fwiw I like Joshua and willow.

Thanks for the replies.

The reasons we have reservations about Noah and Joshua is that they are biblical and we are not religious.

I've never seen GoT, I like Skyler too but I've heard that's a character too?

Harper is a ancestors maiden name. I've always liked it even before I knew that. There was an ER character called Harper which is where I think I got the original idea from. But yes it's likely we'll have to abandon it if people think we're following some 'sleb trend. Grr

DP likes Piper more than I do. I think of piper alpha.
Willow-that's from Buffy. He also likes Xander but I vetoed that. Although I don't mind Alexandra (lots of good nns) for a girl.

Ronan, yes the reason I wasn't too keen is because of Mr keating. I hate it when slebs spoil good names!

I love Ronan for a boy.

Rohan I'm not keen on the sound
Aidan can't use
Liam I don't like this dp suggested Leon which made me look at him like he'd grown another head!
Carter we did discuss this one!
Harris can't use but do like Scottish names

Tiernan
Caelan
Darragh/Dara
Oisin

None of these are 'us'. We have 2 DCs with well known, easy to spell, not trendy (but not old lady) names. These suggestins just wouldn't fit. Although I would like something a bit more adventurous this time especially if it's a girl.

I know a male Piper if that's any help?

Your girls names have a few Surnamey type names but strangley your boys list doesn't?

What about a few less obvious boys surname type names?

Keir
Elliot
Miles
Innes
Austin
Gregor
Harris
Lyall
Grant

What about Roman, it's similar to Ronan (although it has the Abromovich issue)
