When you hear the name Darcy, what do you think? Is it feminine and pretty? Does it go with Tilly?

Cannot decide what little girls name I like!

I think it's horrible. NBothing attractive about it at all. It's one of those rroll your eyes names. (Only figuratively speaking of course)

Heels99 · 04/02/2015 12:58

Despite darcey bussell being a very classy lady, Darcy (or however the chosen spelling is) is very much a chav name where we are. Not sure why though but the darcys at school are not the posh girls!

LollyLondon · 04/02/2015 13:04

No, I'm not keen on it.

If you have a Tilly, how about

Lara
Jasmine
Florence (Florrie is a pretty name)

bienemaya · 04/02/2015 15:52

No, I personally wouldn't call my dd Darcy (nor Tilly), but why does it matter what WE think? Thankfully we all have different tastes and that makes life interesting. Choose the name YOU love.

BubGal13 · 04/02/2015 17:55

A friend has a niece called Darcy. Every time she mentions her I think-"annoying...twee" and then immediately of Mr Darcy/male and have to remind myself its a girl.

Andcake · 04/02/2015 18:00

I like darcy and hate Tilly. I don't watch strictly but when darcy bussell was in her ballet prime she was truly inspirational. And I love pride and prejudice too Grin
Tilly awful posh nonsense!

JapaneseMargaret · 04/02/2015 18:01

Grin Remus

SweetsForMySweet · 04/02/2015 18:02

No because it is a surname, predominantly an American name (we're not American) aand I always think of "the famous Mr D'Arcy" from the period dramas

squoosh · 04/02/2015 18:05

I think he's only been in the one period drama. Lazy git never capitalised on his popularity. He should have spinned it out as a series like that sensible boxer Mr Rocky did.

Lunastarfish · 04/02/2015 18:35

I like Darcy, but how about Dulcie instead? It's very similar and not such a Marmite name!

Leeds2 · 04/02/2015 18:38

Dulcie is lovely.

turdfairynomore · 04/02/2015 18:41

DD20 has a friend called darcey. She's always known as D'bumsy!!!

girliefriend · 04/02/2015 18:42

I don't like it, it makes me think Arsey Grin

Umbrelladilemma · 04/02/2015 18:47

Grin squoosh

maresedotes · 04/02/2015 18:50

I like it. I have one. Can people just say they don't like it without saying 'chavvy'?

Toomanyexams · 04/02/2015 18:56

There are two Darcies at my DD's school. One has an unmarried, financially struggling mum, the other's mum is a surgeon. So, from what I have seen Darcy has broad appeal across different classes.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 04/02/2015 19:03

I like it maybe because DS has a little friend called that and she seems sweet

Showy · 04/02/2015 19:08

I just snorted with laughter at squoosh. You'd think he'd at least endorse a couple of products too. Languishing about in just the one period drama.

I don't like the term 'chavvy' either. I do know why people use it if I am utterly honest. It's shorthand. You'd hear the same thing said of Darcy here. I know of a couple and their siblings are Kaiden/Demmiee-Lee and Tayla/Bayley respectively. They seem to belong to a certain 'group' of names I suppose. Locally that is. I'm sure there are Darcys in every socioeconomic group.

SaBearOz · 04/02/2015 21:09

I have a little girl called Darcy and out dog is called Tilly!
Darcy was my a favourite girls name for many years before she came along and I like that I see it as a slightly masculine name. It's also not popular where we live.
We do joke that we will call her arsy Darcy when she is a teenager throwing a strop!

sleepybee · 04/02/2015 21:30

I love Darcy makes think of Darcy Bussel - ballerina or Mr Darcy

My husband won't agree says it's too Bridget Jones Hmm

Phephenson · 04/02/2015 23:35

Liked Darcey as a name before Darcey joined strictly. Now will be used to death. Don't do it unless you want her to have to use another initial to differentiate her from all the other Darceys in her class. Sorry :-(

newrecruit · 05/02/2015 00:04

I know a Darcey and Tilly who are sisters. Grin

LittleErin · 05/02/2015 12:21

I really like it, spelled Darcey. I think Dulcie is actually more chavvy than Darcey which is a completely normal name

Tranquilitybaby · 05/02/2015 16:49

For a girl I like it spelt Darcie. I don't think it's over girlie, but it's a lovely name.

UnrelatedToElephants · 05/02/2015 17:14

Darcey with an e for a girl.
