DH and I just cannot agree on potential girls names!
We have one DD called Jessica and coming up with her name was hard enough and only chose it a month before she arrived.
With DC2 we have plenty of time for a name as not due til October but it's driving me crazy.
I read out the top 100 girls names and he did not like one.
My fave are Lucy, Rebecca, Jasmine and Iris.
I don't really like modern names but if the right one came along and we can agree I would be happy.
We agreed a while ago that we would name a boy after my dad who died when DD was 2 weeks old so I'm praying for a boy to save the hassle lol

I know a Jessica and Melissa. ( love the latter, as it's not very common)

Bless you! I am currently in hospital on bed rest with preeclampsia. My baby girl, likely to be born any day now is called Tiger-Rose. This is because my mother told me that she would support my decision to have another child if I called it Tiger (this was before ttc). I think she thought it would put me off. I thought she was joking. I think she wouldn't have held me to it, but dh fell in love with the name and so it has stuck. I have made a few half hearted attempts to find something different but dh hasn't liked anything! So that's it, she will be Tiger-Rose!

What a charming thread title! Hmm

What was your dad's name? Is there a female version?

I think your problem is going in with the top 100. Look far beyond that. There are lots of wonderful names for girls.

Oh I thought of Rebecca when I read Jessica.

Some of our friends have just had a little girl and called her Florence Evelyn. Not a modern name but still quite cute? Our dd is called Poppy Soraiya so I think too modern for your tastes?

Sorry for any offence caused by the title. I was trying to be tongue in cheek.

There are some great suggestions thank you.
I would love the name Rebecca, it's my childhood best friends name and she's been diagnosed with terminal cancer. DH isn't keen on naming our children after anyone although he is happy for my dads name Peter (go figure!)

I love Rachel, Autumn and Amber too.

Is Rowan suitable for a girl? As well as traditional names I love nature names.

My dd is Rebecca, our other choices were Jessica, Charlotte or Abigail. If she had been our first she would have been Samantha

wattlegirl · 03/02/2015 11:31

Would you consider Peta? The female version of Peter and pronounced exactly the same. Although rare, it is not unheard of - at least here in Oz.

Just a thought......

Another suggestion for a girl is Sarah. I think Jessica and Sarah go together very nicely.

Thisvehicleisreversing · 03/02/2015 11:37

I love Rowan for a girl.

It was on my list for DS1 if he'd been a girl.

TheyLearnedFromBrian · 03/02/2015 11:59

Also possibly Petra instead of Peter if a girl?

I agree that both Rebecca and Melissa go really well with Jessica.

Really, if you've got the kind of DH who's going to sit there arms folded going 'NOPE' to every suggestion, and who can't a. discuss b. compromise or c. come up with his own list of names - then you shrug and say then you'll be going with one of your suggestions.

Blahia · 03/02/2015 14:51

How about Petra? (The female version if Peter). I love it. It was my nan's name.

Qwebec · 03/02/2015 15:57

River, Willow, Maple, Skyler, Ivy, Holly

Margaret

Love Autumn, and think it sounds lovely with Jessica.
What about

Saffron

Nina

Alice

Helena

Wren

Misty

Mumtotherescueagain · 03/02/2015 16:53

I just thought the title was a bit too anti-girl Grin

I see from Wiki that Petrina is a German version of Petra. That's rather pretty. Too European? There's also Petronilla or Petronia. Too fancy?

UmizoomiThis · 03/02/2015 16:57

Love Petra. Knew a little girl who was called Pepper as nickname and really suited her.

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 04/02/2015 15:06

Rowan for a girl is lovely. I would use it if I could...

thecaroline · 04/02/2015 19:05

The Jessicas I know have sisters named Hannah, Sarah, Jennifer, Rebecca, Mallory, Monica, Claire.

It was extremely popular here in the 1980s, so I'll leave out the really dated sibling names like Brittany and Amber.

I think Jessica goes well with more traditional biblical names like Rebecca and Sarah. You could also take the Shakespearean route and go with something like Rosalind (lovely and underused), Cordelia, Miranda (also so underused!), Silvia, Helena, Juliet?

VixxFace · 04/02/2015 19:24

Tiger rose is BAD.
