What spelling do you prefer?

Eleanor

WishUponAStar88 · 01/02/2015 19:20

Eleanor. I think Elinor looks odd.

Floggingmolly · 01/02/2015 19:22

Eleanor. The second isn't an alternative spelling; it's wrong.

Decanter · 01/02/2015 19:24

I prefer Elinor, I think it's really pretty but more modern than Eleanor. It's how Merida's mother's name in Brave is spelled. Smile

Sophronia · 01/02/2015 19:25

Eleanor.

ClearlyMoo · 01/02/2015 19:26

If you have Welsh heritage then it's fine to use Elinor. It's not "wrong" it's Welsh.

Have you considered Eleonore?!

AuntieStella · 01/02/2015 19:26

I prefer Elinor (which is an old, mediaeval spelling)

OnGoldenPond · 01/02/2015 19:26

Glad everyone agrees with the spelling I used for DD! Smile

Funnily enough nearly everyone I have come across has used the wrong spelling which is very annoying Confused

meditrina · 01/02/2015 19:29

Another preference for Elinor here (as in M Brent Dyer)

KatherinaMinola · 01/02/2015 19:29

The sister in Sense and Sensibility is Elinor, so not too modern. I like both spellings.

WerewolfBarMitzvah · 01/02/2015 19:30

Elinor

CaptainAnkles · 01/02/2015 19:31

I think Elinor looks rather pretty but I would expect it to be spelled Eleanor if I heard someone being called it, IYSWIM

Nolim · 01/02/2015 19:35

Eleanor

Alisvolatpropiis · 01/02/2015 20:30

Elinor.

Blahia · 01/02/2015 21:03

Eleanor. But Elinor isn't wrong! It's the spelling used in MANY countries. Go with whichever you prefer. :)

BrambleBee · 02/02/2015 14:33

Elinor - it reminds me of the character in Sense and Sensibility

tammytoby · 02/02/2015 14:34

I actually prefer Elena!

TakeMeUpNorthMountain · 02/02/2015 14:48

Eleanor. Lovely name.

IsadoraQuagmire · 02/02/2015 14:56

Elinor. Though Lizzie Siddal's middle name was Eleanor and I do love her...

christmasmarchpane · 02/02/2015 15:00

The Elinors I know both pronounce it the same as Eleanor, so I'd opt for the more popular, well known spelling.

squoosh · 02/02/2015 17:40

Elinor looks so much prettier.

squoosh · 02/02/2015 17:41

Good enough for Jane Austen............................

Makeoneupnow · 02/02/2015 17:43

Elinor is not wrong just different spelling. I really like Elinor

catwithflowers · 02/02/2015 17:46

Eleanor. But then I am biased Wink
