Hi,

DH just suggested Eliza for our baby girl due next week and I've taken quite a like to it! Just considering potential nn's, what do you think?

Thanks!

I have an Eliza. We chose it and thought we would call her Ellie but also liked the nn Lizzy. As it has turned out she is 3 and has never been called anything else but Eliza yet.

I know someone who has a toddler Eliza - she seems to call the Eliza and Liza more or less interchangeably. I don't think it's a name that other people would automatically shorten unless you asked them to.

StayGoldPonyBoy · 31/01/2015 20:45

El or Liza, I would say. Beautiful name!

velocityofbeans · 31/01/2015 20:51

Speaking as an Eliza, to my knowledge it's never been shortened, not in my hearing anyway Smile

Just don't say it's a short version of Elizabeth, it's not, and it gets on my wick when people say it is, or call me Elizabeth by mistake

It's good to hear that it often goes unshortened as it really is so pretty!

Now just need to push DH from liking to loving! Thanks!

I love Eliza. I have a friend called it and she just gets Liz (long vowel sound!) Like lies.

capercaillie · 31/01/2015 21:22

Lizzy!

ExitPursuedByABear · 31/01/2015 21:22

Izzy.

Lovely name.

VioletVelvet · 31/01/2015 21:23

Lizzy was what came to mind first for me.

Walkingonsunshine00 · 31/01/2015 22:06

Ellie, Eli, Liza or Liz

moggle · 31/01/2015 22:49

Our Eliza is 3 months old and no nicknames yet. The most obvious one (to me when I say her name) is Liza but I don't like that much so will try to avoid saying it myself. Ellie just seems like a completely different name, to me. I honestly don't think we'll shorten it. Her only nickname at the moment is Bobbins because of how she bobs her head angrily when she's hungry...
I know an adult Eliza and she doesnt have any nicknames either.

We have had so many compliments about the name, by the way. I think it's just lovely- relatively uncommon but everyone knows the name and how to spell it. I'm so glad we chose it.

My friends dd is Elyza and they nn her Ely

softlysoftly · 31/01/2015 22:54

We have a family Eliza and she gets ElizaBoo.

For some odd reason I find people (myself included) shorten long names and lengthen short ones!
