And if so is it inevitably Jules at some stage?

Love the names Juliet but really really dislike Jules. I've a friend called Julianne who hasn't been called that by anyone but her parents in about 20 years. She is always Jules.

What are the chances of me insisting on Juliet always and brainwashing her so that by the time she's a teenager she insists and never lets anyone call her jules?!!!

I know a Juliet in her 40s and she's always been Juliet...I've known her since we were children.

I have a DD who is Rose...kids call her Rosie which I don't like as it reminds me of Sally from Corrie with her "Roooosie" but DD doesn't mind...seems to like it.

If kids call your DD Jules and she likes it she won't say anything....she'll be Juliet to you though.

Also know an Amelia who's Mother keeps calling "Mi-Mi" trying to get it to stick....it doesn't. None of Amelia's friends call her that.

No, my DD is Juliet and never Jules. A male friend called Julian is almost always Jules.

You could shorten it to Etta / Etty / Ettie instead?

Pandora37 · 26/01/2015 12:50

I know a Juliet who goes by Jet and another who is always Juliet. I don't think Jules is inevitable although she might choose it herself one day.

BlueChampagne · 26/01/2015 13:23

Like Mrs Tawdry the Juliet I know never abbreviates. However, Jet sounds like a very cool option, Pandora37!

I think just about every girls name gets shortened to syllable 1 + s at some point these days (and most boys names too).

Zero. Her name, her choice - and to be honest if you make a big hoo-har about it she's far more likely to rebel and use the name you don't like.

But there's a difference between the occasional "jules" and her saying "hi, I'm Jules" when she meets people. I don't think it's even close to a certainty that Juliet would turn into the latter.

My mum is a Juliet, she's never Jules. Dad calls her Ju-Ju sometimes, which is the only nickname she has ever had in her life.

I have a daughter called Juliet. I think it's the most beautiful name. I will always call her Juliet.

Aherdofmims · 05/02/2015 12:06

My cousin is Juliet and likes it. Not known by a nickname.

CarlaVeloso · 05/02/2015 12:40

I love it spelt that way. I know two Juliette which seems unnecessarily frilly. I heard the father of one call her Julie recently. Not so nice.
