What do you think to Primrose? Or any other ideas for names a little like this?

I love it.

nooyearnooname · 24/01/2015 11:35

I really really like it, but sadly it always reminds me of Primrose Shipman. Which is a damn shame as its such a pretty name!

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 24/01/2015 11:56

I love it

Petitgrain · 24/01/2015 11:56

Love it, love it, no-one would be reminded of Primrose Shipman I don't think, I'm too old for all that baby malarkey now but I saw a baby called Primrose on the tellybox the other day and my heart did a sort of yearning, "I want a baby called Primrose" thing that it hasn't quite got over yet. 'Twas a bloody gorgeous baby though.

Imagine being 45years old and introducing yourself at a job interview as ~Primrose~. There are plenty of similar sounding names that won't make you sound like a fairy fantasist - have you considered other 'rose' names? Rose, rosa, rosalie, rosalyn, rosalind, rosamund, Roseanne, roseanna, rosalina?

LovethenameDaphne · 24/01/2015 12:00

Love love it! It's very marmite though. I like the fact you can shorten it to Prim, Posy, Rosie, Rose, Po, Ro! So even if she isn't girly there are alternatives. I'm surprised it isn't more popular.

DeanKoontz · 24/01/2015 12:01

It's the name of katniss' sensitive but skilled little sister in the hunger games.

feelingunsupported · 24/01/2015 12:02

Love it - made me think of The Hunger Games though

feelingunsupported · 24/01/2015 12:03

X post Dean!

AuditAngel · 24/01/2015 12:04

I went to school with a girl called Primrose, love it.

LovethenameDaphne · 24/01/2015 12:05

I love primrose and other names on my list are:
Daisy
Daphne
Zinnia
Esme
Penelope

GreatAuntDinah · 24/01/2015 14:20

Bloody awful.

MamaLazarou · 24/01/2015 14:21

Instant association for me is 'Shipman', I am afraid. Sorry.

Also, 'Prim' is a terrible nickname.

Ludways · 24/01/2015 14:23

I know one, parents are a bit hippy, not that that's a bad thing. However, I hate the name.

BalloonSlayer · 24/01/2015 14:27

LovethenameDaphne are you Ma Larkin? Grin She had a Primrose and a Zinnia. (IIRC the other girls were Mariette (short for Marie Antoinette, Petunia, Violet, and Phyllida)

I do think of Primrose Shipman. One of the reasons I remember her name is how incongruous it seemed, I am sorry to say.

But Primrose Larkin (see above) is quite a character.

LovethenameDaphne · 24/01/2015 14:34

I'm not her but I should be!! I love Florence Daisy too and Violet!

Draw the line at Petunia though Grin

pinkisthenewpink · 24/01/2015 14:35

Lovely name!

KoalaDownUnder · 24/01/2015 14:38

Awful. It contains the word 'prim' and it sounds totally prim.

squoosh · 24/01/2015 14:44

Bloody terrible. It's beyond twee, twee is a speck on the horizon to the name Primrose.

BellMcEnd · 24/01/2015 14:51

I've worked with two Primroses. Both were absolutely lovely. One shortened it to Prim which (although obv her choice!) seemed a shame as it's so pretty.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 24/01/2015 16:36

I thought Shipman straight away

jazzyjenbo · 24/01/2015 17:29

Love this name, i know 1 almost 3.... She gets called prim.
I would have this for my bump but dd1's middle name is rose

hestialou · 24/01/2015 20:08

Primrose sounds lovely, I didn't even know Harold shipmans wife was called primrose, so doubtful when she is growing up it'll be relevant?

Rhubarbgarden · 24/01/2015 21:29

Love it. I also love Marigold, Fern and Clover. Sadly they all sounded ridiculous with our surname.

rockinrobintweet · 24/01/2015 22:18

it's ever so popular where i am. and my sisters bump is due to be Primrose. i like it for her, but IMO it's a name that won't grow with the child.
