Does it sound like Elena ?

invisiblecrown · 22/01/2015 19:47

Elena. Your child will thank you.

AnotherNewt · 22/01/2015 19:49

I think I'd wonder if her father went to Dulwich (or if she was conceived on College grounds Grin )

shakemysilliesout · 22/01/2015 19:51

I prefer elena but I guess that shortens to Ellie rather than ally? And I like the nickname ally.

Aleyna is nice.

nihatsgirl · 22/01/2015 19:54

Sounds like Elena, yes :)

I love Ally. I know too many Elly's. My preference is Arabella but I can't get agreement on this :(. 3 girls and I have not been able to use this name.

Why not use elena?

I get it if u love aly as a nn btw. I loved alley mcbeal. But not mad keen on Alison.

'I've been searching my soul tonight...'

shakemysilliesout · 22/01/2015 19:59

Cross post.

I like arabella too. Ally is a cool name.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 22/01/2015 19:59

Looks made up.

shakemysilliesout · 22/01/2015 20:02

Do u like Alison??

nihatsgirl · 22/01/2015 20:04

lol @ newt. None of those Applies

OP posts:
nihatsgirl · 22/01/2015 20:07

Don't like Alison. It's not made up. I prefer unusual rather than traditional names

scarletforya · 22/01/2015 20:08

I'd just spell it the regular way, it looks less awkward!

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2015 20:09

If you are prepared for it to be spelt incorrectly the whole time, and her having to spell it out every time.

I agree it looks made up too.

scarletforya · 22/01/2015 20:10

To me the 'y' is ugly looking. A bit 'yooneek'....!

RiverTam · 22/01/2015 20:15

It really does look like it's made up, sorry, like an 'entertaining' spelling of Elena.

nihatsgirl · 22/01/2015 20:42

I don't mind that it looks made up. My name and that of older girls are all made up although spelt phonetically correct

Only1scoop · 22/01/2015 20:44

I know an Allina it doesn't seem to get shortened though.

Letmeeatcakecakecake · 22/01/2015 20:54

It's a town in France isn't it? I know someone called Alenya... Everyone calls her... Alenya!

It's a very pretty name!

thanksamillion · 22/01/2015 20:54

It's a really popular Romanian name but usually spelt Alina. My dd is Adelina which is a slight variation on it.

Letmeeatcakecakecake · 22/01/2015 20:55

Oh fuck it ignore me I didn't read your name properly! Was wondering why everyone was suggesting Elena!

woffington · 23/01/2015 10:44

Elaina?

Alaina?

squoosh · 23/01/2015 11:05

Elena is a lovely name with a beautiful spelling.

Aleyna will be an unnecessary headache.

SunshineAndShadows · 23/01/2015 16:42

Surely Elena is pronounced quite differently though
Isn't Aleyna pronounced like Alaina?
I know the name
Not made up

squoosh · 23/01/2015 16:47

The only Elena I know is Spanish and she pronounces it 'a-lay-na'. Not saying Aleyna is made-up just that it will be a headache in that no one will assume that's how it's spelt.
