How would you pronounce this?

DP says 'El-ay-na
I say 'El -en - a
MIL says it like 'Eleanor'

I'd say El-eh-na, having being influenced by greek DH. Before that I would've said El-ay-na
If that makes sense ConfusedGrin

Think it depends whether you're going for the Greek version, the Spanish version, the Italian version, at any other version.

The Elena I know is of Spanish extraction, and says Eh-LEN-ah.

El-ay-na

I would love to use it but a good friend beat me too it!

Rhubarbgarden · 17/01/2015 18:20

The one I know pronounces it like Eleanor. I was quite surprised when I found out that's how she's spells it.

WestEast · 17/01/2015 18:24

Eh-leh-na as influenced by the Polish Elena I know.

noitsbecky · 17/01/2015 18:29

The Russian one I know is El-lay-na.

Walkingonsunshine00 · 17/01/2015 18:31

Ellen-ah

NatashaRomanov · 17/01/2015 18:37

El-ay-na.

Based on the rather popular Vampite Diaries TV show!

NatashaRomanov · 17/01/2015 18:38

Vampite? Vampire! :)

wigglesrock · 17/01/2015 18:39

This was supposed to be dd3s name Smile, but the different pronounciations just proved too much for me. I would say Eh Len ah but at one point I had 4 different ways of saying it and it just was irritating me. It's a really lovely name.

anothernumberone · 17/01/2015 18:43

The Ellen-a I know spells it with a second l. The Eh lay na I know spells it with one l. The elena is Russian and it is pronounced eh lay na in Russia where she is from.

Sparklingbrook · 17/01/2015 18:44

Ellie Goulding is Elena, so it may not matter if everyone calls her that. Grin I would say it like Eleanor.

MeAndMySpoon · 17/01/2015 18:46

No way is Eleanor (or Elinor) spelled Elena! Grin Elena is a 'proper' name but pronounced entirely differently to Eleanor/Elinor.

burgatroyd · 17/01/2015 20:21

El ay na. I love this prn.
