Any ideas? I tend to prefer traditional names, but not old fashioned! Found out yesterday we're having a boy, but am completely stumped!

Do you want something as popular as Amelia? Is there a cultural aspect?

ameliarose2012 · 03/01/2015 10:53

No, I never wanted a popular name for DD. I've liked amelia since I was a child (when it was definitely unpopular!), and always thought I wanted to call my daughter that. It was just bad luck that it had a surge in popularity in the year she was finally born Sad I actually considered calling her something else instead! I like Victorian names. Can't do james as she has a cousin called that already.

Oh, and no one syllable names- we have a surname with only one syllable and it just sounds weird!

These things happen...
How about Patrick or Leonard? Not popular at the moment, quite traditional but not posh, with lots of nickname possibilities?

florascotia · 03/01/2015 12:07

A good list of Victorian names here: www.britishbabynames.com/blog/2011/05/victorian-darlings.html

Amelia and Edward sounds great.

childrensservant · 03/01/2015 18:01

I know an Amelia and Angus?

wattlegirl · 04/01/2015 08:31

If it helps I know an Amelia whose brothers are Dion and Bryce.

Elizadoesdolittle · 04/01/2015 09:00

I have an Amelia. Like you op I have loved the name ever since I was a little girl but unfortunately a year or so after she was born it grew in popularity. I don't actually know any other Amelia's though so it's been fine for us.

Anyway I'm due dc2 any day now and on my boys list are:

Max (although that won't work for you)
Arthur
Albert
Henry

ameliarose2012 · 05/01/2015 18:08

I quite like Edward... I think! This baby naming business is harder than I thought! There's quite a lot of nicknames that I like, but don't like the idea of nicknames as given names iyswim. So I like Alfie for example, but don't like Alfred!
