Thoughts on Tyburn?

My other half and I are massive London history fans and are thinking of Tyburn as a first name for our baby boy. It's one of the names of Londons original rivers and was also the original name for Oxford St called Tyburn Road.
Yes it does also have a reference to the gallows at Tyburn cross! But we're not put off by that. Pronounced tie - burn.
Short would be Ty.
Horrified? :) Our other current faves are Larkin, Efra or Sachin.

If you name a child Fleet they will have a lifetime of people saying Fleet Street. Imagine the nicknames too - Swifty etc and suppose they are not athletic, fancy being the slowest boy in the class with the name Fleet?

Makes me think of Taybarns ??

Gallows. You might as well call the poor kid 'Pentonville'.

Why not just go for Ty?

professornangnang · 01/01/2015 11:29

No way. I actually kind of like Larkin but Tyburn is awful.

I automatically think of hangings, far too ghoulish for me.

I know a Larkin so that one doesn't sound strange to me. Reminds me of Jim Larkin rather than Philip.

Tyburn has vile associations.
Effra sounds like a girl's name
Sachin makes me think of saccharine.
And Larkin reminds me of Philip Larkin, who wasn't a bag of laughs.

Sorry!

I like the historical / personal connection to you and your H but I too would think of the gallows so would probably not go for Tyburn.

Are there other historical names in the same vein you could use?

Had to comment as Larkin is also top of my name list for baby boy due end of April.

gallows so a bit grim, definite no.
