Buddy?

What do you think?
We're not in the UK at the moment.
Could a child get away with being called Buddy? We might put this as his middle name and call it him anyway.

Also really like the name Rudi, though it does remind me of the word 'rude'. Which do you prefer?

Thanks in advance :)

Rudy is ok-short for Rudolph?

Im not mad on buddy as a name. Too cute for me! I'm anti teddy as a bc name too. I'm old fashioned.

As an aside I loved the buddy books in school. So sad though.

StellaLuna82 · 09/12/2014 18:38

Rudolph just makes me think of the reindeer!! ;)

Would you call your child 'Mate' or 'Pal'?

shakemysilliesout · 09/12/2014 19:45

Yes- that's my first association too.

The real life story of Rudolph is a really lovely one.

Paul young has a son called rudy I think.

Are u a buddy holly fan? His name was charles

BlueGreenHazelGreen · 09/12/2014 19:48

I much prefer Rudy.

I really don't like Buddy. It doesn't pass the High Court Judge test IMO.

(Sorry)

thesmallbear · 09/12/2014 19:50

My aunty's dog is called Buddy.

Bowlersarm · 09/12/2014 19:51

Buddy is terrible.

Rudy is better (slightly!)

We have a Rudi, so I think it's fab.
Buddy no - unless it's a labrador you're having.

rockybalboa · 09/12/2014 19:56

Buddy (as in the elf) or Rudi (as in Rudoplh)? This is a festive wind up right? Although I actually like Rudi. Just not for a child born in December!

pictish · 09/12/2014 20:47

Our Rudi is 20th December.
We didn't actually make the connection at the time...we just liked the name.

StellaLuna82 · 09/12/2014 20:49

Yes, we do like Buddy Holly, I also know that Bud is a nn for William. like I say, could use Buddy as a middle name. We just really like it!
pictish does your son get any 'rude' jokes?
Tbh, I'm much more clear on girls names, I don't LOVE any boys names, but don't know what we're having so have to think about both!!

TimelyNameChangey · 09/12/2014 20:53

What about Rocky? I'm only half joking. My DH likes Buddy and Rocky...we have no boys by the way but they were his faves. I preferred Anthony or Seth!

Clarabumps · 09/12/2014 20:55

Buddy reminds me of Buddy the Elf.

Rudy is nice.

Micah · 09/12/2014 20:56

I really don't like buddy. I know a 2 year old called it and I thought his mum used it like mate or pal (or little man these days ;) )- I was just about to ask what his name was when I heard her telling someone it was his name.

sillymillyb · 09/12/2014 20:57

My friend has 2 King Charles spaniels called rudi and buddy!

Sorry, I realise this isn't a helpful input, but I got a bit excited at the coincidence Grin

Bowlersarm · 09/12/2014 20:58

Bud is a nn for William? I never knew that. How did that come about?

pictish · 09/12/2014 20:59

OP - not so far. He's nearly 7.

MehsMum · 09/12/2014 20:59

I know two young lads called Buddy.
Both are dogs - a Jack Russell and a golden retriever.

So for a baby.... no. Sorry.

AlpacaYourThings · 09/12/2014 21:01

Fuck the High Court judge test...

If you like the name, go for it.

I like it, personally.

playftseforme · 09/12/2014 21:03

NDN's dog is called Buddy!

Alisvolatpropiis · 09/12/2014 21:04

If someone chatted to me about "Buddy" in vague terms I would assume they were talking about a dog.

Bowlersarm · 09/12/2014 21:10

I don't think you should fuck the high court judge test, it may be important.

AlpacaYourThings · 09/12/2014 21:25

Nah, not to me.
