welsh baby girl name in England

My husband is Welsh but we currently live in England. We would, however, like to choose a Welsh name for our little girl that goes with our surname, Howells. We are looking for a name that is easy to recognise and pronounce outside of Wales. Any suggestions welcome. Thank you!

Rhiannon? I have know three Rhiannons in England. I also know a Heulwen who was born and brought up in England, but that's another story, as she is always having to explain her name.

Seren, such a pretty name and lovely meaning too.

My DS has a welsh name and we live in England and it poses no problems.

Somanyillustrations · 25/11/2014 20:12

Elin Mabli, Seren are easy for non- welsh speakers. Also Megan, Bethan, Betsan. Or a Welsh spelling: Anni, Elsi. Ffion, Manon, Siân...

NormanTheForeman · 25/11/2014 20:14

Nerys isn't unheard of in England either.

Clueing4looks · 25/11/2014 20:14

I've always loved the name Angharad, it's one of those names that grows with all ages.

BooDidIScareYou · 25/11/2014 20:15

Seren? Eira / Aneira, Mari, Haf, Beti / Betsi / Betsan, Elin / Elena, Carys / Cerys, Nerys, Mali.

I've just gone for the shorter more easy to pronounce ones!

BooDidIScareYou · 25/11/2014 20:17

Oh someone suggested Manon....I love that name!

Muskey · 25/11/2014 20:18

How is Mabli pronounced? Is it MAB-lee, or MAY-blee?

MehsMum · 25/11/2014 21:09

Mali (pronounced Mally) is a cute one.
Rhian works in England, as do Anwyn, Carys and, of course, Manon, which is a gorgeous name.

Medibeagle · 25/11/2014 21:12

Eluned. Mai. Lona. Rhiannan.

Marcipex · 25/11/2014 21:15

Seren
Nia, I think Nia is lovely.

redrubyindigo · 25/11/2014 21:17

Elowen

EveDallasRetd · 25/11/2014 21:19

Norman, I know a Hedd that changed her name to Heather when she moved to London. I wanted Heulwen for DD but DH vetoed it, citing her to put me off Smile

OP I like Gwenllyn and Cerys

EMS23 · 25/11/2014 21:19

I'm English but live in Wales and my youngest is called Seren.
It's relatively unheard of in England and I always get compliments on her name when we are in England.

strongandlong · 25/11/2014 21:25

Lots of lovey names here. I'd steer clear of names with any letters that are sounded differently in English vs Welsh (so Myfanwy, Eluned, Hedd). Poor thing will be constantly explaining herself and correcting people.
