Anna Margaux??

Our DD1 is due in three days! My DH and I are sure we want to call her Anna - I think it's beautiful, simple and elegant. However because it is simple, we thought we'd give her a slightly longer middle name. We would like to stay quite traditional, but open to unusual suggestions! I think Margaux is sophisticated but sweet - DH is unsure.

Other options are Anna Blythe (not strictly traditional but I like it!) or Anna Catherine (bit boring so doesn't add much interest to the simple first name?). Any opinions on these welcome, or of course any other suggestions!

Margaux Hemmigway was the first famous person with that spelling and she was named after a bottle of wine!

I like Anna, but prefer the Margot spelling for Margaux....otherwise it's a lovely name

Ha! Just to be awkward, I really like Margaux rather than Margot. Either way it's a lovely name!

I always thought Margaux Hemingway's name seemed like a really weak joke, bearing in mind her family's (and later her own) battles with alcoholism.

Margot is lovely though. Anna is okay if a bit everywhere these days.

Anna Blythe reminds me of Anne of Green Gables who became Anne Blythe when she married.

I think it's strikingly beautiful. I don't even mind the Margaux spelling, though I, like the others, prefer Margot.

Anna Catherine is pretty but bland. I know a lot of them. Anna Blythe is nice, but I prefer Anna Margot/Margaux.

Anna Margaux is lovely. Although prefer the spelling Margot.

Anna Margot is very nice, so is Anna Blythe (that has such a lovely meaning: 'happy').

Blyth is VERY traditional. It's been used as a name for girls since the 17th century, and in earlier forms from around 1200, maybe even since Anglo-Saxon times.

Margaux, on the other hand, is the name of a famous French red wine. Margaux Hemingway (born early 1950s) was named Margot by her parents but changed her name herself to Margaux, after the wine. So Margaux is a nickname or - as Squoosh says - a rather unhappy pun.
Poor Margeaux Hemingway seems to have had a tragic life and killed herself, still young.

Margot as a version of Margaret has been around since the Middle Ages in France.

I love Anna.

I'm not sure about Margaux for the several reasons given above, and I think Margot looks a bit ugly written down.

I prefer Anna Blythe or Anna Catherine. Both sound elegant & sophisticated.

In the nicest possible way, if you wouldn't name her 'Riesling' or 'Rioja' then please just spell it 'Margot' or people will laugh.

Thank you for the input! I had no idea Margaux was a wine - I saw it and preferred the spelling, as I agree with DramaAlpaca about how Margot looks. That said, I prefer it to naming my child after booze!

I like Anna Catherine followed by Anna Margot.

Nonetheless, Margaux was a wine long before poor Margaux Hemingway was the first to use it as a nickname. As 'Manatee' implies, above, who would want to name a child after a vintage/brand-name?

The name of the character in 'The Good Life' was spelled 'Margo' rather than 'Margot' - same with the 'Despicable Me' character IIRC. So there's another option.

It's Margot Hemingway not Margaux.
Margo looks pretentious.

The problem with spelling it Margot is that many non-French speakers will pronounce it Mar-got. In German speaking countries it is also pronounced like that.

If you want it pronounced Mar-go, I'd spell it Margo. Simple and clear!
