Girls names for twins

For years I had a girl's name picked out as we didn't find out the sex of our two DS's. It is Caitlin Maura (Maura for DH's mother) we have a typical Irish surname O' something or other. Now we're having two girls and struggling to come up with a second name, I don't know if I should scrap Caitlin entirely and start afresh. Obviously don't want names that sound too samey especially as they are identical.

Boys both have two syllable first names which was an accident but not sure it that's a theme I should continue.

Caitlin and Maura? They sound lovely together and then you just need to rethink middle names.

What kind of names do you like?

Caitlin Maura is a stunning name. and then i like what a pp suggested as twin being Anna. maybe something like

I vote Caitln and Niamh. Both Gaelic, work well together but not too matchy. You are using Maura for DH mum, could you use your mums name as other middle name?

Bit of a Gaelic theme to my suggestions!

I'm not sure I would use the name of OH's mother for one of the girls, in case the other felt "less special." Unless the other one got your mother's name as her middle name.

The only Caitlin I know has Lucy as her sister. Also think Caitlin goes well with Megan, and Anna.

I love Caitlin, was on my list for ages. Love Anna. How about Tabitha, Verity, Phoebe, Tess or Rosalind?

I'm not sure I'd go with Maura as a first name. We used Mary as a middle name for dd1 as both my mum and mil use variants of Mary as a first name. My mil is Maura. To my ears and it's just my age and where I grew up but Maura is quite an old fashioned name. I'd be wary of calling one twin a more "modern" name and the other twin what I would think of as a granny name. I could foresee a "why does she have a nice name and I have a granny one?".

I completely agree with everything wigglesrock has said in her post. I see Maura as very old fashioned in comparison with Caitlin, but it would be fine as a middle name.

How about Maeve instead, for the other twin?

I do think Maura is maybe a little old fashioned. My mother's name is Dorothy which I'm not keen on for a middle name but my favourite Aunt's name is Marina which I think would be a nice middle name too.

I tend to like names which are fairly classic but not overwhelmingly popular, I am a bit nervous of the whole granny name thing.

We have parents names as middle names. We would never want to call our DC by our DM first names. They lose a bit of their identity not gain it IMHO.

Names I do like Roslynn but too samey, Amelia but doesn't really go with the Scottish/ gaelic theme that both boys have but can shorten to Mia/ Millie which are cute nicknames when small. Emily, Caroline (Cara for short), I like Jennifer but not keen on jenny as nickname.

Jenna maybe instead of Jennifer/Jenny?

I do like some of the names but none of them seem as nice as Caitlin Maura. I'm already feeling parental guilt at failing to name a child appropriately and they're not even here yet! Does anyone have any fab, classic, elegant first second name combos to go with a 3 syllable surname they wouldn't mind sharing?

Would you use Dorothea instead if Dorothy as a middle name (although I quite like Dorothy!)?

my daughters are Scarlett and Camilla which i would deem classic? Scarlett is becoming slightly more popular according to wed but im yet to meet another! and Camilla i don't know of any! and again you could short to Millie or Mia like you said? and we call Scarlett, Star, as a nickname. their middle names are

Camilla Rose

i also love Ophelia but DH hates it, and Scarlett was going to be Diana for a while.
