lol at type of mollusc. Limpet doesn't have the same ring at all! It's a very old English name - a musical instrument. Linnea sounds a bit like linear I think? Liesel is lovely but I'm afraid she'd get weasel.

I love linnet but fear she may end up as Lin / Lynne which I'm not fond of.....

When I was 14, I was going to call any future daughter Linnet (because I loved the Children of Green Knowe) until my friend said "sounds like a tampon".

How about Verity to go with Imogen?

I have a Verity, she gets called Vee or Vivi. We're in USA, no-one has ever heard of "Verity" ("Veeridee" ) but everyone comments on how pretty it is.

I thought a linnet is a bird? That was my first association FWIW. I've never heard it in English but the Welsh equivalent (Llinos) is quite common in Welsh-speaking Wales. It could, annoyingly, end up as Lynne or Lynnette.

I much prefer Blythe - it makes me think of the film Blithe Spirit which I love.

Also immediately thought of a mollusc when I read Linnet! Sorry.

I love Linnet because I loved Greene Knowe stories and Linnet was a particularly nice character. I don't really like Blythe

I'm afraid linnet is too close to winnet which I think is slang for a bit of poo that remains attached after evacuation.
I'm so sorry! I think Linnet is too obscure for a name. She also then has to spend her life spelling and explaining it which I think is a burden. Why not give a child a traditional or uncontroversial name and have a family nickname? I just think life is hard enough without giving the world ammo agin yr baby
But some kids grow up proud of a distinctive name.....
Why not Linnet as a middle name?

Blythe is lovely, was on my list but Dh vetoed. Has a nice meaning also. Linnet reminds me of the bird, Blythe is better!

Not a huge fan of Blythe because there's a town in the NE called Blyth. Too close for me in afraid. Saying that, providing you don't intend to live up here then I imagine it won't be an issue, and objectively I prefer it to Linnet, but both are pretty.
