Or something else? To go with Imogen.

No, not universally pronounced 'it', Gerund. It is not certain that it is related to the bird. More likely it has more than one origin, one being Welsh.

pommedeterre · 21/11/2014 10:21

Don't like linnet. Blythe is nice.

I also love Verity.

Darcy?

orbitalspeed · 21/11/2014 10:22

It sound like innit Hmm

Teasing potential I think. Horrible name

orbitalspeed · 21/11/2014 10:23

Darcy does sound in the same vein as these names. Good suggestion!

shakemysilliesout · 21/11/2014 10:45

If I hadn't read this thread I would pronounce linnit wrong. I thought it was same as lynette.

Anjou · 21/11/2014 11:54

Thanks got the pronunciation clarification, badtime. I don't think for a minute they anyone would confuse linnet with lint, but that's what the sound of that name reminds me of. Just like others have said it makes them think of limpet. To my ears, it just isn't a nice sound. Each to their own though.

OP, how about
Anya
Clarissa
Cora
Esme
Harriet
Inez
Ishbel
Juniper
Lilah
Manon
Polly
Seren
Violet
Wren

What about the Welsh 'Eluned' - Eh-LINN-et?

Another similar name is Linden.

divingoffthebalcony · 21/11/2014 18:32

I have to say I don't like Linnet. It's kind of dowdy. Actually I find Blythe quite dowdy too.

Linnet also reminds me of the old music hall song:

^my old man
said follow the van
and don't dilly dally
on the way
Off went the cart
with the home packed in it
I walked behind
with me old cock linnet
And I dillied, I dallied
and I dallied and I dillied
I lost the van
and don't know
where to roam
Oh, I stopped on the way
to have the
old half-quartern
and I can't find my way home^

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 21/11/2014 18:45

Saw your post about losing baby's twin... Why not both.... Linnet Blythe if you still really like and want to use them?

Or something completely different so you don't choose between them?

Maybe something with just 2 syllables to go with Imogen...?

PandasRock · 21/11/2014 18:59

I love Linnet. Dh vetoed it (and Linden, for a boy).

What about Cecily?

saturnvista · 21/11/2014 19:20

putthehamster Thanks for that suggestion. We have to honour my mum and papa with the second/third names. pandasrock The second names will be Anna Cecily actually!! I do love Cecily. Linden is nice.

Hubbie has just announced he likes Kate best. Where did that come from?! But it doesn't go with our surname so probably a flash in the pan.

Wren is lovely and so is Rowan.

I like Linnet. But the only one I have ever come across in real life I contacted by phone and asked for her by name - only to be corrected by the pronunciation as if it were Lynette!

beebeebumble · 25/11/2014 15:05

I love Blythe. To me, Linnet sounds a bit like 'innit'! But it's unusual and could grow on me...!

Marcipex · 25/11/2014 21:23

Lindis is pretty and doesn't sound like sanpro.

TheCatTheCuntAndTheCupboard · 26/11/2014 17:56

I was going to say, if you're doing small bird, Wren is nicer than Linnet. Linnet looks lovely written down but is somehow clunky to say.

Not keen on Blythe, can't quite put my finger on why.

diddl · 27/11/2014 12:31

I think that the only names that "go" with Imogen (if that's a consideration) are Felicity & Verity.

Cecily is lovely.

why not have that?

Linnet · 30/11/2014 01:45

I love the name Linnet, but then I'm biased, lol

YoungBritishPissArtist · 30/11/2014 02:37

Not keen on Linnet but I love BlytheSmile Gwyneth Paltrow's mum is called Blythe.
