We're having dc2 shortly and don't know if it's a boy or girl. I need some opinions on names as we're not sharing them in real life. Our surname starts with a K and ends in a Y, and DS1 is Max.

For a boy...
Hugo
Finn or Flynn

For a girl...
Lola
Ada or Ayda
Lyra
Sorrel

Thinking of names is always more fun before I need to commit to something!

I like all of your boy names. And Ada for a girl is my favourite. I know a little Ada and she's very sweet. But I don't think it's very common...

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 10/11/2014 21:58

What are your criteria? Does popularity bother you too much? The reason I mention it is Lola has gone massive here. There are 3 in the 20 girls attending DD2's preschool.

I like Ada or Lyra for a girl. Hugo is nice, as is Flynn. Not keen on Finn. Smile

I think you're having a girl and you will call her Ada, I met a woman today, randomly, on a dog walk. We talked about dogs for a brief time and somehow mentioned she had a new grandchild. It was a girl and her name was Ada. I thought this was beautiful and I'd never heard a baby called this before.

There's my 'woo' prediction, please do ignore me but I do like a story that seems like fate......

Good luck with the baby, by the way. I like the boys names but I like Ada the best!

They're nice - not super-popular, but not unusual either. I like Ada much more than Ayda. Actually, Ada is one of my favourite girl's names.

LadyRubyPenhaligon · 10/11/2014 22:05

Ada or Hugo. Don't like the others.

Squirm · 11/11/2014 10:38

Finn and Ada

PeggaPip · 11/11/2014 10:40

Ada or Flynn

Hakluyt · 11/11/2014 10:43

Hugo or Ada. Not Ayda- people will not know how to say or spell it.

itfcbabe · 11/11/2014 11:49

Finn and Ada for me

EmilyGilmore · 11/11/2014 13:01

Does Hugo work with your surname? I'm imagining Keeney or something similar...I feel as though the "g" of Hugo is a bit clunky with the K. Both throaty sounds.

Whenwillwe3meetagain · 11/11/2014 13:05

Lyra is my choice for dc1 due next Friday if a girl. Finn was on short list for a boy. Nice choices!

squoosh · 11/11/2014 16:21

Ada is awful, she's a prune faced scullery maid wearing a greasy pinny.

I like Finn and Sorrel. I especially like Sorrel.

MollyBdenum · 11/11/2014 17:03

No! Ada is clever and glamorous, like Ada Lovelace.

squoosh · 11/11/2014 17:04

No, no, no. Ada is hideously downtrodden and gets up to all sorts in the back row of The Ritzy with Clive the weird looking footman.

RabbitSaysWoof · 11/11/2014 17:05

Flyn and Ada are my faves

Holfin · 11/11/2014 17:08

Finn and Lola are my favourites Smile

Clarabumps · 11/11/2014 17:09

Ada and Hugo.

Finn and Lyra are my favourites.

johendy · 11/11/2014 18:01

Thanks all. I am a little worried about popularity - I have 3 close friends with the same name, and would like my kids to have something less common. But that's hard with boys names especially as DP and I struggle to agree. It seems like Lola and Finn might be a little too popular. And thanks for setting me straight on Ada/Ayda - for some reason Ada feels too short, but seeing it written a lot makes it better somehow.
