About 90 percent on both these names

Oliver

Ellen

Both not in the top ten where we live

Am open to similar names as not 100 percent

What names have you rejected?

I have an Oliver but wish I'd gone for something else tbh. Shortlist included Charles and Christopher.

I like Ellen but prefer Helen or Helena. Seren? Elin? Honor?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/11/2014 19:54

Mrsgrumble · 08/11/2014 19:58

I like Oliver, but think its quite a popular name at the moment. I do prefer Helena or Elena (E - Lane - A).

ashesandfire · 08/11/2014 22:23

Like both.
Prefer Elena, Helena, Eleni, Elowen, Eleri, Elodie to Ellen but it's a pretty name.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 08/11/2014 22:29

Love Oliver, there's a reason it's so popular and that's because it's such a great name.
Prefer Eleanor to Ellen

Sophronia · 08/11/2014 22:35

Ellen is great. Oliver is a bit popular.

barmybunting · 08/11/2014 22:50

Both of them are lovely! Will Ellen be shortened to Ellie?

We have an Oliver - still love his name and although we know several, there are only two in his school year of 60.
Ellen was also on our shortlist - lovely name.
Others on our list were Toby, Peter, Alexander, Alice, Susannah, Eleanor

burgatroyd · 09/11/2014 08:50

How about Orson?

I know three baby Olivers and a couple of Oscars.

Mrsgrumble · 09/11/2014 20:19

Thank You all.

Don't live UK so it's not as popular

Dh wants an old fashioned name so ellen reminds him of older generation name

Mrs Hathaway, what puts you off oliver?

MrsHathaway · 09/11/2014 22:55

My Oliver gets called Ollie which I dislike.

And when I call his name anywhere, another two or three little boys turn round.

I let DH talk me out of Kit. Boo.
