Sophia, Anna or Thea?

We have just found out that dc2 will be a girl Smile We had our boys name all sorted but we are finding it much harder to agree on a girls name. Dd1 is Emilia Rose.

Our shortlist so far is:
Anna
Sophia
Thea

Which of these names do you prefer for the sister of Emilia?

Also, can you think of any good middle names to match? We did think of Anna Sophia as one option.

Thanks!

Love Sophia Jane, beautiful.

It flows better than Anna Sophia.

avocadotoast · 08/11/2014 21:20

I really love Sophia. I'd be using it myself if it wasn't taken elsewhere in the family.

wigglesrock · 08/11/2014 21:55

I have three daughters and two of them have the first two names on your list (although we spell Sophia differently). They are both beautiful names, I know I'm not much help Smile. Our S has the middle name Mary, but we use family names as middle names.

DramaAlpaca · 08/11/2014 21:59

Anna & Sophia are both beautiful names & go well with Emilia.

Anna Sophia would work really well with a Portuguese surname, and Sophia Jane is also very nice.

I don't like Thea at all, sorry.

Like wiggles I have 2 dds with names from your short list, but the third name you have was a strong contender for dd2 at the time! So am completely biased but think they are all great names Grin I think all three 'go' with Emilia if that is important to you! Sophia has become a lot more popular in the last few years but I am not sure that Frozen has had much influence on the numbers of Anna's for the reasons others have given about the pronunciation

As for man, we go for family names. Are there any that come to mind? I like Jane. Or another flower, like Rose?

Congrats and enjoy choosing!

at the risk of outing myself, my name is one of those and doesn't rhyme with fear, but with payer, although it's spelt the same. I love my name Smile but didn't so much when I was little. I like all 3!

KERALA1 · 08/11/2014 22:38

Sophie/Sophia names are so popular I really wouldn't

looki · 08/11/2014 23:05

I think Thea goes best with Emilia. I wouldn't worry about the Frozen thing with Anna (they pronounce it Ah-na, for some reason), I think most people don't even realise it's the same name!

Anna is pronounced Ah-na in Ireland too. Either way, lovely name.

littlejohnnydory · 10/11/2014 09:56

I think the Frozen thing...the character was called Ana (Ah-na) in America but the spelling has been anglicised over here, so it's not really the same name!

I love Thea though and slightly more unusual than the other two. All very pretty names though.

SK28 · 10/11/2014 10:14

I love all three names! Our top girls name is Annie (well, a nn) and I like Anna. Sophia is beautiful but as others have said, more common. And Thea is lovely - I have Theodora on our list which would be nn Dora or Thea, I like both :)

Emilia is beautiful, too! I think Sophia might be my least favourite alongside Emilia, just because 'Emilia and Sophia' could become a bit of a mouthful at times!

Out of interest Dinner, would you mind sharing your boy's name? We are really struggling with boys' names and as you seem to like similar girls' names to us I wondered if you might inspire me?!

bouncingbelle · 10/11/2014 11:31

Anna Sophia is beautiful!

verelab · 10/11/2014 19:10

As I have said before, I really (and probably irrationally!) dislike the name Anna. I find it really dull and smug-sounding!

I like Thea - unusual but pretty-sounding.

I much prefer Sophie to Sophia, again I find Sophia a bit smug! Also, there are loads around here.

So .. Thea Sophie?

Good Luck!

Theas18 · 10/11/2014 20:14

You can guess which I prefer ;)

Mine now feels like a bit of a trend setter though lol

Leeds2 · 10/11/2014 20:19

I prefer Thea (pronounced Thee - uh). Just that. Not Theadora.

Like Anna.

Wouldn't choose Sophia.

longestlurkerever · 10/11/2014 21:13

My daughter Anna Sophia! Excellent taste you have there, OP! No one has tried to pronounce her name like in frozen yet. The a is nice too. Just not as nice Wink

Dinnerfor1 · 11/11/2014 10:27

Thanks everyone for more responses.

SK28 my boys name was James. I like the name but also both my grandfathers were called James, so I was choosing it more for that. I also like Jacob and Sebastien, but because I always knew I would choose James, I didn't think much about other boys names.

I think Anna and Thea are my favourites at the moment.

Rose was chosen as a middle name for family reasons rather than after a flower, so I would like another family name. Unfortunately both my grandmothers have very dated names, as does my mum, so Jane is the best choice (it's my mum's middle name). Dh's mum is called Mae which I like, but the family name came from his side last time, so I feel like it is my family's turn, if that makes sense!
