Trying to talk dh into the name Rufus he quite likes it but says it needs a nick name any suggestions?
I've suggested Ru but he doesn't like it.

Ruf, Rufy? I don't think it really needs a nn though.

moxon · 07/11/2014 16:52

Fuss-pot Grin

Rufie. Lovely name, was on our shortlist.

UriGeller · 07/11/2014 17:08

I know a Rufus whose nickname is Roo. Little Roo. He's 3 and adorable.

florascotia · 07/11/2014 20:05

Rufus is fine by itself. It already IS a nickname. It originated as as a nn for King William II of England, son of William the Conqueror. Young William had red hair and so was nicknamed 'the red' or 'the read headed'.

I really don't understand Mumsnetters' concern re nicknames. They evolve, and are mostly not given by/sanctioned by parents. They just somehow develop among DC and their schoolfriends....

I know what you mean florascotia I don't believe you can "pick" a nickname but I need to try a woo dh with some suggestions.

Red.

AWombWithoutAFoof · 07/11/2014 20:50

Not sure Rufie's a great idea, don't think shouting the name of a date rape drug across the park is the way to go.

Pebbles0934 · 08/11/2014 04:49

I know it's not the same but my dog is called Rufus and we call him all sorts... Roo, Rufie's (not do much this one due to the drug as said above!), Rhubarb, Dufus!

You could call him Ru-Fussy after his fussy father!

Kantha · 08/11/2014 04:54

The little Rufus I know is called Roofy by his mum

Panicmode1 · 08/11/2014 05:44

We have a Rufus - he doesn't have a nn really, but a friend of mine sometimes calls him Ru, which I don't like, but hey ho!

Cockadoodledooo · 08/11/2014 09:26

Red.
Although my dc both have nicknames which are nothing to do with their given names.

whereisvioleta · 08/11/2014 09:30

I taught a Rufus, we called him Rufe.

Foxbiscuitselection · 08/11/2014 20:36

Rafe

BigfootFilesHisToesInYourTea · 08/11/2014 20:41

Rufio? Grin

smokeybacon · 08/11/2014 20:56

I have a rufus. He is just rufus. It's such (IMO) a gorgeous name its a crime to shorten it.

HoneyNutBunny · 08/11/2014 20:58

Just Roo

BlackberryandNettle · 08/11/2014 21:49

I really like Roo. Cute for a baby and cool for a teenager. Rufie immediately makes me think of Rohypnol as mentioned. Or Rus/Rusty?

Squtternutbaush · 09/11/2014 19:22

Ruru, Fus, Rus?

There's a Rufus in DS's class who's nn is Woof, because he struggled with his R's as a toddler and would call himself Woofus.

My brothers friend has been known as Doofus since he was about 9 (now 22 and most people don't know his real name) :o
