Names to go with Jones

Baby is due in January. I have a feeling it's a girl and DH and I cannot agree on a girls name. We like Seren for a middle name, it's welsh for star and both myself and my sister have welsh middle names.
Please be honest what do you think of the list below and do you think they go with Jones and Seren. We have already panicked about Florence as shorten to Flo you can make up all kinds of rude rhymes to go with Flo Jo!

Florence
Nell
Annie
Betsy
Ruby
Niamh
Ava
Annie
Hermione

Thank you

I really like Betsy from your list but I would use Elizabeth on the birth certificate and Betsy in everyday life. Elizabeth Seren Jones flows nicely and day to day 'Betsy Jones' is very fab congrats

DraaaamaghAlpacaaaagh · 30/10/2014 22:33

I like Ruby Seren Jones or Ava Seren Jones from your list.

Agree that Elizabeth Seren Jones is also lovely, with Betsy for day to day.

ItsNotEasyBeingGreenAndWarty · 30/10/2014 22:33

I don't think Florence, Niamh, Esme or Hermione go with Seren Jones. Florence because of FloJo, Niamh because it's Irish when Seren and Jones are Welsh, and Esme and Hermione just don't seem to flow well.

If I had to pick one from your list it would be Martha.

Belazu84 · 30/10/2014 23:20

Martha Seren Jones. Beautiful.

evelynj · 30/10/2014 23:23

We're jones & have a flojo! She's amazing but I love all your names-most were on my shortlist. Like annie but I'm quite taken with Nancy to suggest another for your list ;)

Congratulations btw

DraaaamaghAlpacaaaagh · 30/10/2014 23:23

Martha Jones was one of the Doctor's companions in Dr Who. It might not matter a bit to you, OP, but thought I'd point it out.

SnoringNorma · 31/10/2014 02:00

I like Seren best. Any chance of more Welsh? Seren Anwyn Jones? Can never have too much Welsh surely? Wink

MrsJonSnow · 31/10/2014 02:08

Florence Flo Jo was the famous sprinter wasn't she? Actually pretty cool nn
Nell - Is a nn IMO.
Annie - still a bit of a nn, but v cute if you don't mind the nn thing.
Betsy - Short for Elizabeth/Bethany not a real name
Ruby - Nice but maybe bit lacking pizzazz with Jones?
Niamh - I never know how to say this but I know that's not a prob in UK
Ava - Lovely but SUPER popular.
Hermione - Beautiful and really nice with Jones.

What about Charlotte (nn Lottie or Charlie)? Or Sophie?

Riverland · 31/10/2014 02:41

I like Seren best.

Seren Gwendoline Jones.

owainsmum · 31/10/2014 04:30

I think most names go with Jones, apart from names starting with J, such as Josephine, Joanne, etc because then it will be shortened to JoJo. All of the names on your short list are lovely though.

TropicalHorse · 31/10/2014 04:48

I reckon with a surname like Jones you can go for pretty out-there kind of first names. I used to know a kid called Mercury Smith! It was cool!
What about Andromeda?? Elektra? Persephone?
:)

BlueStarsAtNight · 31/10/2014 07:52

I really like the sound of Betsy Jones, but it doesn't flow well with Seren due to the s's all together.
Ava Seren Jones sounds lovely, and I think Hermione Seren Jones goes really nicely too, I'm just not sure what nn I'd use with Hermione, there isn't an obvious nice one.

I would definitely avoid Martha Jones, far too Dr Who.

JonesSchool · 01/11/2014 13:51

Thank you, current favourites are Ava, Ruby and Betsy.

As a former Jones, with a B name, can I recommend definitely going with Elizabeth on the birth certificate if you go with Betsy? Everyone I went to high school with can confirm that the initials BJ are hilarious Hmm

Mampere · 02/11/2014 23:39

I wouldn't put a Welsh name with Jones, as there'll be so many of them it won't even be funny.

I'd go for a 3 syllable name with a short sur name. From your list, Elizabeth works, Elizabeth Annie Jones

Libby, Beth(an), Eliza all lovely. hate Betsy though!

moxon · 03/11/2014 07:14

I like Annie and Martha. You could also DP a hard t (and soft r) to spell/pronounce it Marta, so as to not double up on the th/s sound when used before Seren.

moxon · 03/11/2014 07:15

DP? Wtf. I actually don't even know what my phone auto corrected there... Halloween Hmm

pilates · 03/11/2014 16:52

Alexandria Seren.
Love all your other names BTW.

mathanxiety · 03/11/2014 17:03

Like pps I love Betsy Seren (Elizabeth on BC).
I love Annie but would Anna on the BC and I also like the sound of Anna Seren Jones/ Anna Jones.
I also like the sound of Martha Seren Jones/ Martha Jones.
Ava is very popular but I like the sound of Ava Seren Jones/ Ava Jones.

I also love Seren Jones --
Seren Eirlys Jones?
Seren Alys Jones?

I don't like Nell but like Penelope Jones, and like the nn Penny.

I agree with ItsNotEasyBeingGreenAndWarty about Florence, Niamh, Esme and Hermione.

Ruby Jones sounds to me a bit like some sort of character from a book or comic for some reason. I don't think Ruby Seren is a good combination.
