Is George still too popular?

I just found out we're having a boy (yey) and we are struggling with names we love. Due in March 2015 and generally don't like popular names. However, I really like George. Too popular still?

Well it's not going to fade off in the next few years imo and even if it DID there'd still be multiple Georges in the years above him at school wouldn't there?

It's still popular here, and rightly so, I think it's a lovely name. It would have been one of our top boys choices had it not been a celebrity name when paired with our surname :(

I know a newborn George and a 20 year old George.

We have a George, born the year before Prince George. I only know of one other George at the moment in my son's nursery but I'm sure we will encounter a fair few over the next few years. I love his name and it really doesn't bother me if it's a popular name or not, I say if you love it go for it.

Hey thanks for your opinions. Not too worried about the Georgie Peorgie link as most names potentially have some random link to something a bit negative. I think I'll wait to see where it is in the statistics by early next year. I guess we could go for something else and then the royals/a celeb have a boy straight after us with the same name in any event. Will have to think on it but it's still a fave at the mo!

IIMO, f anything, slightly less so because people think it is popular.
Howeevr, there were 3 Georginas in my class at school, all of of whom became George. At University, there were 2 Georges, 3 Georginas, a Georgia, and Jorje on my course (80 people). DS is 11, and since he was born there have been 9 different Georges in various classes. I have also had 2 friends use the name.
So I'd say, pretty damned popular, and always has been. Sorry :/

It was the 10th most popular boy's name last year, I think it's fair to say it will be sticking around for a long while to come.

That sounds like you know something sinister is going to happen to him.

Ha I mean he is unlikely to stay PM for that much longer in reality, esp not by time our little one gets to school age.

Ds2 is a George. And our 2nd choice was milo. Turns out there will be 3 milos in his class when he starts next year and no George's!

There aren't a lot of the same names in our small school but there are at least 5 George's who have to be called George + surname at all times!! It's a strong, classic name so will always be popular but at least won't date him like the faddy names do.

Not keen on Cameron personally although because I know a few of all ages, I don't connect it with David Cameron particularly. Hope you are right in your predictions about his demise though!!

George is a fairly popular name but it actually looks more popular in the name stats than it is because in the UK there generally aren't any alternative spellings and it's not short for anthing else.

I'm not sure I fully agree with that as up until very recently George was a name that was out in the wilderness of name fashions. It's not like James which has always been popular, no matter what trends come and go.

I love the name George and I'd say go with it! But I'm biased because my son is George (he's 17 though so was named long before Prince George)
