Have gone off name...

Dd2 is due around Christmas time and all through pregnancy we were decided on the name... Leah.
I really loved it but have gone off it in a big way.
Leah, sounds like 'leer' I think of something a pervy old man would do.
Sounds too much like Mia, which is too popular for my liking.
Bible tells of Leah, down trodden and weary sister of the more beautiful Rachel...Quite sad really.
Looks like 'Yeah'..

So, I have got a problem.

I don't like any of the top 10 names, nothing too frilly or flowery, none of the old names making a come back... Help!!!!!!
Names that we considered bt don't love are,
Zoe
Megan
Lucy

Any suggestions would be really welcome,
Thanks.

DC4 would have been a Lucy
if he had been a girl!

I love the name Lucy

I found during both my pregnancies that I would go on and off names, so I'd say there's a lot to be said for waiting to meet them and seeing if it 'fits'. Your reasons for going off of the name make sense, but I wonder if the spelling rather than the name itself is more of an issue? For what it's worth, if I saw Leah, I'd think it was pronounced 'Lee'. If you like the sound of 'Lee-a' why not go for Lea or Lia? Looking at them written down I'm not sure of the correct spelling tbh - none of them look right!

How about
Lara
Lyra
Laila
Mila
Chloe
Anya
Holly
Tara
Cara
Cora
Laurel/Lauren

knowler · 26/10/2014 19:13

How about something similar to Leah, like

Leonie
Leonora
Leo

I really like Leah though!!

GrouchyKiwi · 26/10/2014 19:14

I did this too. We'd decided if DC2 was a girl she'd be Katherine but in the end settled on Sophia.

What about Leia? Star Wars rules.

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 26/10/2014 19:14

Lila?
Lyra?
Lia?

pippinleaf · 26/10/2014 19:15

How about Lena - pronounced Len - a. (Not leena)

Nocturne123 · 26/10/2014 19:16

I think Zoe is a great name , not overused either

IHeartLockhart · 26/10/2014 19:17

What about Natalie? It means Christmas so would be apt!

Cuppy84 · 26/10/2014 19:21

How about Eilir
Pronounced Aa-lee-ah, it's welsh with the name meaning butterfly.

redhatnoknickers · 26/10/2014 19:21

Thea
Keziah
Layla

Asleeponasunbeam · 26/10/2014 19:22

Do you like Rachel?

I also like Zoe and considered Rachel, Kate, Megan, Hannah.

Went with Julia.

Bluesummer20 · 26/10/2014 19:34

Lea was our second choice if DS had been a DD, love Anya, Lydia, Alice.
Cuppy, Eilir is a boys name in Welsh.

littlejohnnydory · 26/10/2014 19:36

Lena is pronounced "Lay-na" to me but I do love it.

Cuppy84 · 26/10/2014 19:42

bluesummer it can be for a boy or a girl.

thatsn0tmyname · 26/10/2014 19:45

Lucille, Juliet, Julienne, Rachel.

BlueSix · 26/10/2014 19:48

I used to know a Leah pronounced lay a if you prefere that pronunciation. Then it doesn't sound like Mia

maggiethemagpie · 26/10/2014 20:04

FWIW I love Leah and would it would have been my DD's middle name had it not been for her first name Faye (say it together quickly - you'll see what I mean)

Lyra is also lovely. I know of a Lilia, doesn't float my boat personally but it's a more original alternative to all the Lilys out there.

burgatroyd · 26/10/2014 20:14

Laney?

Pantstootight · 26/10/2014 20:20

Thanks for all your opinions,
I have thought about alternative spellings, Lia or Lea...
Lia is far too similiar to Mia and I'm not keen on that. I do like Lea minus the 'h'...
I have loved this name for so long but am now put off by the bible significance and meaning of 'tired and weary', so does that really matter?

Dh and Dd1 (12years old) aren't sold on Zoe, I like it.
Dh likes Grace, but it's my best friends's dog's name
Dd1 likes Ashleigh

Wishfulmakeupping · 26/10/2014 20:25

I do really like Lia think the spelling that way is very pretty.
Lucy is nice too.

What about
Sophia
Charlotte
Abigail
Zara
Anna
Elizabeth

dancemom · 26/10/2014 20:27

Lyla?

PrintScreen · 26/10/2014 20:29

Me thought of Leah too. We also liked:
Nina
Alice
Juno
Mila
Clara

Kantha · 26/10/2014 20:55

My son has a Leah and a Mia in his class who are good friends. I do think the two names sound quite comic next to each other. I do think Leah is a nice name though.

What about Naomi? Also Old Testament but not as cute or overly popular.

39steppesmum · 26/10/2014 21:00

we have a Lucy, but her full name is a dutch name, and Lucy is an abbreviation (can't give name on here as it is unusual and would out her)

I felt the full name was better for an adult. Could you go for Lucille/Lucinda/Lucia and then use Lucy for every day?
