Not Arthur

I am so cross. We had a name we both liked: Arthur. It suits ds2. Ds1 loves it too. All great. Then H decides that he is going to shorten it to Arfie. I hate it! We need a new name and we have one week to decide.

I can't find anything I like as much as Arthur so decided to ask mn for some inspiration.

I quite like
Frederick
Louis
Luca
Monty
Quinn (I think this can be a boy's name?)
Gabriel

Thanks!

Alisvolatpropiis · 25/10/2014 21:03

In all seriousness, I like Gabriel from your list.

Our Ds is called Arthur, we love the name and he has really grown to suit it, he is quite cheeky and i cannot imagine him being called anything else. Sometimes my husband calls him Artie but as the nn is the same number of syllables as the full name he rarely gets called anything other than Arthur. It is also still fairly unusual, I have only met 2 others. Are you sure you can't use it?!!

Out of your list I love Monty.. is it short for anything?

isntthatapippip · 26/10/2014 07:59

Irishkez thanks for the list I love spencer. It was on our list for ds1 but I had forgotten it for ds2.

Af2000 thanks for sticking up for Arthur. I am so sad because I love it too but Arfie is awful. Artie is better but I don't see why it needs to be shortened to either really it's a lovely name as it is.

Monty would just be monty, not short for anything.

Very odd. Why would H call him Arfie? I have never heard of that before

marthabear · 26/10/2014 09:14

Speak honestly with DH about how you love Arthur but really dislike Arfie? From all the other names I like Gabriel best by far.

temporarilyjerry · 26/10/2014 11:11

Can your DH not pronounce 'th'? Why else would he shorten it to 'Arfie'?

LTB Might be easier to find a new DH than a new name for your son. Grin

Letitgoletitgo · 26/10/2014 13:20

I think you may just need to talk your dh out of Arfie! If anything it sounds a very baby ish name and I suspect by the time he is old enough to speak up for himself your DS will not want to be called it!

Quinn is nice - I have a Finn.
Also like Sebastian and Luca.

squoosh · 26/10/2014 13:30

Arfie?!

I agree that you should keep the name and change the husband.

TheCowThatLaughs · 26/10/2014 13:40

Quinn makes me think of quim, but that might just be me

moxon · 26/10/2014 13:55

Just to repeat: Arfie???

divingoffthebalcony · 26/10/2014 14:16

Arfie is just hideous. Awful! But Arthur is great.

In your shoes, I'd be telling DH that you love the name Arthur, but he's going to shorten it to Arfie over your dead body.

End of Grin

diddl · 26/10/2014 15:00

So your son is here & you have been calling him Arthur?

Tell your husband not to be so fucking ridiculous!

Or does he dislike Arthur now?

isntthatapippip · 26/10/2014 17:16

He had no name for the first week or so, then we agreed Arthur and now he has started to use the nn arfie. I think he may be changing his mind too, diddl. I just don't understand.

He is a stbxh btw.
