Would you give a sibling the same initial?

I have a DD with the intials E G O L (O L is the surname, not double barrelled)

We know we arew having another girl, and have started to look at names (only 16w so far, there is time)

A name I like is

Eliza

but DH although he likes it says we probably shouldn't have two DDs with the same initial...

Ok, might use it as a middle name then...

So what would go with Eliza as a middle name? and doesn't start with E?

Any G names for symmetry? (not Grace)

I like old fashioned but they need to also be ok-ish in a southern European language

Claudia has been vetoed and so has Georgina (damn you 64 Zoo Lane)

DH said he wasn't sure about one of my choices for DD2 because it began with the same letter as DD1.

As he said it, we both realised so do DSIS and Me. I'd honestly never really thought about it, it's a total non issue.

TinyTear · 24/10/2014 13:39

I also think it is a non issue, but he is worrying post will be complicated if things arrive for

E O L_

I do like Eliza, but also liking Antonia or Vera or Olivia...

FIL and BIL have the same initials and it did use to cause problems when BIL started getting bank statements etc. Wouldn't be a major problem these days as most things like that can be done online so no need for paper copies through the post so although I understand where your DH is coming from I do think you can ignore the issues as I can't see it mattering when that time comes.

JimmySilentHill · 24/10/2014 13:46

What is this stress about post? Confused

If a letter is opened and it's not for DD1, why can't she just say "oops, sorry" and pass it to DD2? Unless their birthdays are also on the same day you can pretty much assume that any cards are for the birthday girl. No one writes love letters any more!

My DDs' have the same initial. Just like you, I happened to like two names that started the same. It wasn't an intentional move. So far they have survived Grin but to be fair, they don't really get any letters!!

TinyTear · 24/10/2014 13:48

Keep it coming!
I do want ammunition to use the same initial Grin

2 of mine (a boy and a girl) have exactly the same initials. Hopefully it won't cause any problems and it hasn't so far.

JimmySilentHill · 24/10/2014 13:53

You save money on name labels for school clothes too!

TinyTear · 24/10/2014 14:04

money saving... tick!

I mix up my nieces with the same initial, so I'm with your DH, sorry!

zippyandbungle · 24/10/2014 14:28

My two have the same initial both DDs. I honestly didn't think of it at the time, just liked the names. The only thing is that I often start with the wrong name then recover with the right one, so their name comes out a bit of a montage of both. Say they were Harriet and Helen, I would call them either Harelen or Heliet. They still answer to it Smile.

RosieProbert · 24/10/2014 14:30

In my family, we all had the same initial. Parents, me and dbro. I don't think I even realised until I was about 10. Nobody ever commented.

sooperdooper · 24/10/2014 14:32

I have the same initial as my brother, it's never been an issue or really anything worth commenting on, I suspect my folks didn't even think about it, they just liked the names

DefiniteMaybe · 24/10/2014 14:33

My dsis has the same first initial as me. I'm pregnant with dc3 and she will have the same initial as her sister.
It's never been an issue for me or dsis and we don't have the same surname anymore so don't have matching initials anyway.

TheVeryThing · 24/10/2014 14:36

My dcs have the same initial (different sound, though) and I have never given it any thought.

HollyBen · 24/10/2014 15:16

DD is also an E initial aa is her her half brother. I like quite a few E names for DC2 but decided to avoid as I think 3 with the same initial it is bit like the Khardasians (or however it is spelt). I wouldn't think twice about 2 with the same initial though. My twin bothers had the same initial and I don't recall it causing any issues.

TinyTear · 24/10/2014 15:38

Good god i had forgotten about the karda-overexposed-non-entities!

At least DH and me have different intials and we only will have the 2 DC...
