hi everyone

what do you think of the name Eva? is it too common now? I personally don't know any Eva's but I've read it has been quite popular.
I was thinking of Rose as the middle name too.

Thoughts? Smile

I like it a lot but I know quite a few.

SouthernComforts · 22/10/2014 19:43

I like it. I know a few Ava/Evies but prefer Eva. Only know one.

CurlsLDN · 22/10/2014 19:46

Ava was the number 4 most popular girls name in England last year. Obviously not quite the same name but similar enough to bear in mind. Info here www.ons.gov.uk/ons/rel/vsob1/baby-names--england-and-wales/2013/stb-baby-names-2013.html

pregnantpause · 22/10/2014 20:16

I have an Eva so am biased- I love the name.

It is popular. You will have people calling her Ava. And eve. And Evie. And mn hates the name - it's often used as the - oh x is lovely so nice to hear a name that's not Eva ( in what I read as a sneering tone) children will call her Eva beaver, Eva diva, and we have heard one child call ours Eva peeva.

But it's such a beautiful and classic name IMO. Mine is four and I still love hearing her name

rachel234 · 22/10/2014 20:40

Nice names but Eva is very common around here, as is the middle name Rose.

EmilyGilmore · 22/10/2014 20:47

I only know 1. It's lovely.

Please just choose a name you really like - how many Evas are known by randoms on the web doesn't matter. I really regret the amount of time I spent on MN Baby Names (yes, I know, nobody forced me). It totally skews your judgement.

Tauriel1 · 22/10/2014 20:50

I only know one Eva but quite a few Eves. Go for it, if you love it.

pregnantpause · 22/10/2014 21:02

Emily- I had the opposite- irl my friends family etcetera ousted a name I loved- later it came up on mn, everyone loved it and I wished I had asked mn in the first place! My eldest would have a much nicer name than she does ( though hers is beautiful)

IsabelleAdjani · 22/10/2014 22:08

My DD is called Eva Rose so I think it is beautiful :)! I wanted Eve, DP wanted Ava (which I refused cos of Mylene Klass and had a feeling it was going to get v popular) so we compromised on Eva and I'm glad we chose it. DD is 6 so in 2008 when we chose it it was not as popular as it is now. However we have met only one other Eva, but a lot more Evies and Avas. And I don't care how popular it is, I love it. As Emily say, choose a name you really love!

pebble82 · 23/10/2014 17:58

Love it. I'm 9 days overdue and so will be naming our new DD very soon. Eva is our front runner favourite with a back up if it doesn't suit her when she's born. The second choice name we've had from the beginning but DP suggested Eva and it just feels right. I asked MN a few weeks back, lots of negativity around it bring too popular but like the posters on this thread lots of positive comments too saying if you like it go for it.

I have a popular name (for the early 80s), there were several in my year at school with various different spellings. Can't say it ever bothered me.

Riverland · 23/10/2014 20:56

Beautiful name! I love Vida too.

Eva Madeleine is my favourite name for a girl.

Albertatata · 23/10/2014 21:47

Love Eva but I was put off because I think that very popular names such as Evie & Ava sounds too similar to it

CoffeeChocolateWine · 23/10/2014 21:53

I have an Eva so I love it! I fell in love with the name about 20 years ago when there was hardly any Evas around and by the time I actually had a daughter (2 years ago!) it had become very popular.

I must confess it did put me off a bit and I ruled it out several times during my pregnancy but kept coming back to it. In the end it was the name DH and I both loved and agreed on. So we just accepted that she would probably be in a class of Evas, Eves, Avas, Evies and Evelyns and went for it!

She sometimes gets called Aoife too.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 23/10/2014 21:54

My DD is Eva Charlotte.

squoosh · 23/10/2014 21:55

Very popular but it is a lovely name. It isn't too frilly or twee.

Rose as a middle name is a bit too predictable though.

IsabelleAdjani · 23/10/2014 21:56

The thing is, if you look on darkgreener names, in 2013 there were only 1822 babies called Eva born in 2013 in England and Wales which is not actually that many considering the population. Evie and Ava are a lot more popular - where we live anyway!

Squirm · 23/10/2014 21:57

I love it. So much nicer than Ava and Evie.

SarahJinx · 23/10/2014 22:02

My niece is Eva Rose, she's the only Eva I know and is 6. Its such a strong, feisty name for a girl. Love it.

postmanpatscat · 25/10/2014 12:55

In my primary school there are two Avas and one Eva. I like Eva more.

Tranquilitybaby · 26/10/2014 03:24

It's beautiful x

MarissaHodge · 27/10/2014 13:02

Pretty!

cherrybombxo · 27/10/2014 13:52

I know one Eva but she is Slovakian and pronounces is "eh-vah", rather than "ee-vah". I think it's a really pretty name either way! Smile

MiddletonPink · 27/10/2014 15:34

I think it's quite mean sounding if that makes sense.

Ava sounds much softer to my ears.

PurpleTurtleDove · 27/10/2014 21:47

I don't know any Eva's but it's a beautiful name imo.

lornemalvo · 27/10/2014 21:53

It's not common where I am. I have 3 children and am around children all day and I have only come across one Eva. I do not know any Evas.

I think it is beautiful and a classic. I think you should go for it. Use a name you love.
