Another middle name question...

Dd2 on the way shortly, we have settled on Anna for her first name. Both our mothers are called Margaret and we adore them both but dislike the name. We have no other middle name that we are massively attached to, so we are considering just using Margaret and making two lovely ladies happy. What think ye?

It's lovely, both my mum and my mil have the same first name although they use different nicknames. When I had dd1 we used the name as a middle, it made both of them very happy.

One of my daughters is called Anna Smile

I don't like the name Margaret either, but as a middle name, and a family name at that, it's fine. Classic. Anna Margaret sounds good too.
If you wanted to you could stick another name in there as well so that you have a 'pretty' name and a 'family' name.

Thanks, yeah in the absence of any other name we feel strongly about, I think we will probably use it. We have been trying to think of alternatives that have same meaning but are a bit prettier (Maggie, Megan, etc) but haven't come up with anything so far, anyone any ideas?

Daisy is a form of Margaret? Though to be honest I think Anna Margaret sounds nice, even though I'm not hugely fond of the name

TravellingToad · 22/10/2014 20:46

I'm firmly of the opinion that middle names are for honouring loved family members. My sons middle names aren't particularly names I'd have choosen but they are normal unoffensive names like margaret and they made some old men very proud and happy!

I dislike the name Margaret, however for some reason think Anna Margaret sounds lovely!

Tauriel1 · 22/10/2014 20:46

Anna Margot?

Anna is beautiful by the way.

SlinkyB · 22/10/2014 20:52

Anna Margaret is lovely - go for it! Smile

Anna Margaret is lovely. And what are the odds of both grannies having the same name? Even if I didn't like the name it would be a no brainer for me as I love family names as middle names. You would make two ladies v happy as you say.

minipie · 23/10/2014 17:14

I like Anna Margaret too!

If you don't then traditional nicknames/alternative forms for Margaret include Maisie, Peggy, Daisy, Rita, Greta, Mamie, Margot, Marjorie, Midge... any of these take your fancy?

Aherdofmims · 23/10/2014 17:17

Margot is nice and goes well with Anna.

I like the daisy idea but not such it goes with Anna.

rachel234 · 24/10/2014 07:26

I dislike Margaret too but middle names are rarely used and you'll make your relatives happy.

How about Anna Margherita?
