Just how crazy would it be? My DH is not buying it, but I think it's such a sweet sweet name for our little girl. We are lucky to have a classic last name which almost anything goes with. Advice please? I know it's a little bit out there but I love it .....

What is it about pregnancy hormones that makes the Baby Names topic so hilarious pregnant women consider such unusual names? Grin

KatieKaye · 19/10/2014 08:50

Your DH is right. Listen to him.
Bambi might be "cute" for a baby girl, but she is only going to be a baby for a very short time. Don't saddle her with this name for the rest of her life.
Orla is lovely.

halfwildlingwoman · 19/10/2014 08:56

If my parents had given me that name I would have changed it the second I was able to. Like in the first week of primary school.

britishbakeoffblues · 19/10/2014 08:57

Ok, so bambi really isn't a great name. Orla is ok but I agree with it being too close to oral!
Is it just the name bambi you like or is it the disney connection?
Disney names.....
Ariel

It's Defo not the Disney connection! I like that its soft sounding. Yes I know there are lots of other soft sounding names but I just love this one. I get the point though... Back to the drawing board.

I also like Marlow. My hormones aren't helping .....

Could it be a middle name. DDs have Ariel and Chihiro as middle names - both after the cartoon characters. Neither will be used in everyday life though Smile

LondonRocks · 19/10/2014 09:07

Willow is soft, as pp said.

deadwitchproject · 19/10/2014 09:09

Hmm, if you like Bambi maybe you'll like Biba which doesn't have the porn/Disney connotations.

Bumpngrind85 · 19/10/2014 09:14

Yes!! I do like biba and have never heard that before. Thank you deadwitchproject Grin

Use Amber with Bambi as nickname?

AWombWithoutAFoof · 19/10/2014 09:20

I love Biba, it's my list for my hypothetical second DD.

MrsMcRuff · 19/10/2014 09:27

An alternative to Biba could be Bebe. It can be used on it's own, or as a nn for Beatrice?

britishbakeoffblues · 19/10/2014 09:29

Morgan
Cicily
Lorelei
Saffron
Monica
Racks brains for soft sounding names.......

pieceoftoast · 19/10/2014 09:37

Does anyone remember when the Beale twins were born in Eastenders, Lucy narrowly missed being named Tinkerbell?

I am sure it's just hormones, OP. What about something similar sounding? Abbie? Ember (at a push)?

RustyDalek · 19/10/2014 09:40

My DD is Amber and was called Bambi (by her friends, not by me) for most of her childhood/teenage years; she's 24 now and a few still call her Bam.

mummytowillow · 19/10/2014 09:43

Why? Why do that to your daughter, just choose a normal name.

I don't get this 'alternative' name business. Your child will be 60 one day and her name will be 'Bambi'!

KatieKaye · 19/10/2014 09:43

Biba is fine if you like names like Armani or Prada.

KatieKaye · 19/10/2014 09:45

Should have said that Biba recently had a collection for Asda, so it's not high-end fashion anymore. Possibly equivalent to calling twins Florence and Fred?

MsCoconut · 19/10/2014 10:04

If not Bambi, how about?

Heidi
Bibi (nn Beatrice/Beatrix)
Bella (nn of Isabella)

As well as Bambi not the being the most formal of names, the forest fire at the start of the film was terrifying to me at the ripe old age of three. I'm not sure i have ever watched the film in full.

LittleBairn · 19/10/2014 11:42

I would assume the parents were simple. Give her a proper name and NN her Bambi.

squoosh · 19/10/2014 12:11

Word of warning, be wary of bringing your daughter for a walk in the woods. She'll be fine but it may not end quite so well for you.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/10/2014 16:54

It's awful. Awful.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha fgs come on! She's going to grow up to be an actual human woman, she needs a proper name. Bambi is bloody stupid.
What about Amber? Mandy? Hannah?
