Help me come up with suggestions of "strong classy cool" names for DH

Hello all, I have NC for this and I am not pregnant yet, so no rush but DH and I are discussing names at the moment and it seems he cannot come up with suggestions - just cross off the potential list anything I like. Angry

Anyways, I have a fairly twee "good girl" name in my country which turns out to be completely out of date and not in a nice fashion here in the UK. (cf a former thread on "best forgotten names"). So I would avoid falling in those two categories.

FWIW, names I have already mentioned to DH are Alistair/Alasdair/Alastair, Victor, Gus (as a nn), Ivan, Isaac, Piers, Caleb ; Iris, Anouk, Hazel, Bronwyn, Essylt, Isolde/Ysolde, Willa

I am very aware that my DC will make his/her name and not the other way around but I cannot help think it actually helps a bit to have that kind of name.

So, do you think the names on my list actually fit the criteria? Do you have other ideas I could run by DH?

But... doesn't he already have a name?

IHateHelloKitty · 16/10/2014 18:37

Ooops. Tired Grin

I meant names for potential DCs so that DH finally understands what kind of names I like and then crushes all my dreams of having a little Victor

I am trying to convince DH about Ezra (for an equally hypothetical DS)

moxon · 16/10/2014 18:52

Max is always good for boys or girls - to me it talks of an independent and intelligent creature. Smile

Some lovely suggestions here - including the cat and DH's names Grin - thank you all!

Maximilian goes on the list for a boy as I am not sure Maxine for a girl would work IRL.

Edward is growing on me too - but with the nn Ned. Would Edward (Ned) Allen make you think of the "The Job" by Douglas Kennedy? Allen is a family name I would love to use as a mn..

minipie Out of your list I really like Tobias (but DH says no ending in "-as"), Austin (but DH's hometown), Caspar (but DH says... guess what)

fuzzpig Absolutely love Ezra! BIL just used the name unfortunately but it is a great name, I hope you will manage to convince your DH!

Thanks again and please keep suggestions coming - DH can shake his head in despair at the rate of a 100 names a night and then offer Ace, Hunter and Fanny Hmm

I absolutely love Isolde, you should work on that, it's a beautiful name Smile

My dd is Belle (Isabella officially but nobody has ever called her that) and my ds, due in January, will be Arlo, Rufus, or Jonah, unless I come up with anything better in the meantime!

LikeSilver I/Ysolde is my favorite name so far - but DH is adamant it reads like "I sold." I do not think it does, especially with a Y! Curious to see what is the opinion on that and on the Welsh version Essylt?
