Recently found out we are expecting a little girlie February. Have narrowed the list right down and at the moment our favourite is Laila. Unsure whether to spell it Laila or Layla and if there's anyone that absolutely hates that nane and why?

Very meh for me, it's quite popular too here.

If you like it go for it. Probably the Layla spelling will be easiest to say as you wish it to be .

Lunastarfish · 13/10/2014 10:18

You could spell it Leila, Leyla, Lala, Lailla.....I think spelling of Layla is better as Laila can be pronounced as 'Lyla' albeit so can Layla but most people will assume Layla rhymes with Kayla . Nice name!

MustHaveMoreTea · 13/10/2014 10:18

I know both Layla's and Laila's. I think they both have their pros and cons. I would probably go for Laila, because it seems more authentic in terms of origin. I think the original Arabic (I think it is Arabic?) would have traditionally been spelled Leila, but I'm not 100% on that either.

Ruth10 · 13/10/2014 10:22

I like the leila(h) spelling too. Pretty name however you spell it though.

StillinShockAhhhhhhh · 13/10/2014 10:25

Gosh now there seven more spellings to choose from! Lol it's not very popular atall around here which was one of the reasons we liked it. Where abouts are you for it to be

have never seen Laila, I would have thought it was Leila or Layla.

think i'd go for Layla personally

Sophronia · 13/10/2014 11:42

I'd go with Leila.

Legionofboom · 13/10/2014 14:23

I thought it was Leila and would spell it that way. Laila looks made up and I don't like the y in the middle of Layla.

I don't absolutely hate it but I don't like it much either. I think I'm a bit put off by the Clapton song tbh.

DecaffTastesWeird · 13/10/2014 15:56

I love the name Layla because of the Clapton song. Blush It's not the worst song to be associated with is it..?

squeak2392 · 13/10/2014 23:29

Personally, I prefer the more traditional spelling, Leila :P

Don't like Laila because it looks like it should be pn like Lila.
Layla's okay but it looks like part of another name to me.

Spelling aside though, nice name :)

Surfsup1 · 14/10/2014 03:55

I prefer the more traditional spelling, but at least with Layla she could say "like the song".

Chocolateorangegirl · 14/10/2014 04:08

Actually I think all the spellings Layla/Leila/Laila are legit. Beautiful name, I considered it for my own girlie.
I know it as Layla from the song but also from 'Layla & Majnum' which is a beautiful Arabic poem (v like Romeo and Juliet). If you do name her this, make sure you get her a copy.
