Love it Smile

MrsHathaway · 13/10/2014 10:04

Very elegant, but what would you expect to call her day to day? It's a big name for a very small person.

eggplanty · 13/10/2014 10:08

I have no idea.. Gus seems a bit rough.. And I hadn't thought of anything else..

Like it. "gussie" is sweet as a NN

Or at a push star I guess?

SurelyTemple · 13/10/2014 10:10

Bit too strong. I have to get behind it every time I say it. It never ever rolls off the tongue effortlessly.

RiverTam · 13/10/2014 10:11

don't like it, too stiff and formal, and Gussie is awful (too close to gusset, my least favourite word ever!).

Lunastarfish · 13/10/2014 10:14

Lovely name for an August baby

Aggie?

ZenNudist · 13/10/2014 10:17

I know an Augusta goes by name of Gus. It's actually quite cool on her.

MustHaveMoreTea · 13/10/2014 10:19

High, high on my list. :)

moggle · 13/10/2014 10:20

In the book Wonder, the main character is called August and he is known as "Auggie" IIRC. I assumed it was pronounced org-ee or ogg-ee WITH A HARD G OBVIOUSLY! Think that's a bit ugly sounding but what about Aggie for a nn, like if she was Agnes or Agatha?

I agree with most of the other posters... it's a nice name but it isn't that easy to say.

eggplanty · 13/10/2014 10:21

Yes I wanted the truth, definitely. Is the chocolate factor child not Augustus? Although I can see why it would remind you..

I would think the parents were massive massive golf fanatics.

kilmuir · 13/10/2014 10:22

Horrid

eggplanty · 13/10/2014 10:26

Yes I was wondering if anyone would mention golf. It seems it's not the first thing that springs to mind for most people? Does it sound "posh" I don't want to seem like I'm trying to give the child an upper class name. It's currently the only girl name we both like. But I can't assess if it's "too much"..

Love it.

NewEraNewMindset · 13/10/2014 10:28

I just picture a rotund, large person. Sorry.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 13/10/2014 10:30

I love it, it was on our list for our dd.

VoyagerII · 13/10/2014 10:33

I don't see it as "big" at all, I think it's quite classy. I also once knew an Augusta known and "Gus" and she was v. cool (she was 7 at the time!)

eggplanty · 13/10/2014 10:34

No need to apologise.. I think there's a connection to Augustus Gloop I'm afraid..

OP posts:
TortoiseUpATreeAgain · 13/10/2014 10:35

It's OK, I have no strong feelings either way. It does have a "posh" vibe, though, so if you really want to avoid that then it may not be the right name for you.

KANGAD · 13/10/2014 10:36

Yes first thing I thought of was Augustus Gloop!

Drquin · 13/10/2014 10:38

It's also a helicopter .... Although spelt "Agusta"
That's my first thought.

Drquin · 13/10/2014 10:39

Sorry, meant to say that the helicopter brand is very often spelt incorrectly thus "Augusta"
