Not to my taste, sorry.

How about Allegra?

All very interesting points- thank you.

Fascinating that the same image of a large woman keeps appearing. At the moment (although we are some way off) it is the only female name my husband and I agree on, so it's looking like a possibility.

I will pitch the other suggestions on this thread to him but most, if not all, he has already rejected.

Are all names disliked to a degree? I mean no matter what we choose some people will dislike. But id like to avoid at lot of raised eye brows when we announce the name, if we were to use it.

Maybe Augusta is more divisive than most..

Augustine is a little less harsh.

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 14/10/2014 00:00

I do like it per se, think it's a pretty, quite classic name, but then someone pointed out the golf connection and that would take it off my potential list. I loathe golf Wink

TsukuruTazaki · 14/10/2014 00:03

I definitely also think of a large, outspoken and quite pushy, smug or self satisfied type.

Actually the image that comes to my mind is someone like perpetua from bridget jones.

figgieroll · 14/10/2014 00:08

Love it

Surfsup1 · 14/10/2014 03:52

To me its in the same category as Gertrude. Matronly, sensible brown shoes and hair parted down the middle and pulled back in a bun.
Not good to my ears I'm afraid.

ScrambledEggAndToast · 14/10/2014 06:59

I would think of Augustus Gloop from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Not that keen.

Somanyillustrations · 14/10/2014 07:15

Love it. Was on out list, along with Agatha :) Aggie as nn for both.

doziedoozie · 14/10/2014 07:17

August sounds nicer to me.

BonnieWeeJeannieMcCall · 14/10/2014 12:24

I like it. But I think it's better as a middle name, because it doesn't really shorten down to anything.

It does make me think of Aunt Augusta in "The Importance of Being Earnest"

SophieBarringtonWard · 14/10/2014 12:30

I like it. I was thinking about this name the other week, I met a little August (girl) at a playgroup.

Bowlersarm · 14/10/2014 12:32

I like Augusta. It's lovely.

Or Antonia or Jocasta?

Ileana7 · 15/10/2014 14:41

Augusta ?? nice name. Not my taste but sounds fine.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 17/10/2014 01:07

Don't like it. Too harsh nothing girly pretty or cutesy about it. Sorry but you did ask for honest opinions.

TheNewStatesman · 17/10/2014 03:53

I think it was Aunt Agatha in PG Wodehouse. But yes, it is a very PG Wodehouse Aunt sort of name.

I also remember an Augustus Fink-Nottle, generally known as Gussie. If that isn't enough to put you off...

Love it

YourKidsYourRulesHunXxx · 17/10/2014 04:16

Sounds farty. My opinion, really sorry. It's a really windy, eggy name

rootypig · 17/10/2014 04:28

Golf, and only golf, comes to mind.

Aurelia?
