What are your views of these names and what are any pro and cons (meaning, sounds...) of the following names in different languages that you know?

Will they be hard to pronounce?

Names I am considering:

  1. Jason
  2. Alex
  3. Andy

Thanks

I love the feel of Andy and Jason.

Also:
Peter
John
Simon
Steven
Paul
Robert
Richard

My 2 yo DS is one of the above. He stands out amongst the Alfies, Barneys and Milos round here.

Jason or Andy. Alex is very popular and Jason and Andy are currently more underused. I love the Greek mythology connection with Jason. I would use Andrew as a full name for Andy.

I don't like Jason. I like Andrew but not Andy. So Alex for me.

Justin?

Jason. Very 1970's. Naughty boy in the class. Old fashion version of mason

Alex. Nice name. Would expect Alex to be a polite boy with good grades. Like Alexander and Lex also.

Andy. Half the men I know are called Andy, Simon or Stephen. All in 30's and 40's.

Given that this boy will grow up in the 2010s and not the 1970s, Andrew/Andy and Jason will be be great underused classics. I also like the Greek association with Jason. Jay is a cool nickname imo.

Alex, on the other hand, is so widely used already for both boys and girls that I personally find it a little dull in comparison.

I like Alexander or even Alex on it's own and like Andrew but not Andy so much...

I'm afraid I really don't like Jason.

Kantha · 06/10/2014 18:28

I like Alex but I know from friends elsewhere in the UK that it is very popular in their locality. Only a few where I live.

Andy I dislike although I really like Andrew. I think I have known too many of them my age. Sounds a bit wet compared to the full name

Jason I think it's got bad associations from the 70s/80s. On a par with Kevin, but I quite like it as a suggestion for a baby born now. It could be quite an edgy choice. I would anticipate a mixed reaction from friends and relations if you went with it.

I like Jason, it was my 2nd choice boy's name.

"Jason I think it's got bad associations from the 70s/80s"

What are the bad associations?
