Ruben for a boy

We have named our DS Ruben which is the Spanish version of the Hebrew Reuben. We wanted something a bit different and wanted to take away the confusion of 'is it 'eu' or 'ue, etc?!' Some people even spell it Reubin. A bit late now as Ruben is our DS's name and there's no going back but what do people think of it? If we had another boy I love the name Raphael as in a previous post.
Thanks!

I think it's gorgeous and Raphael is lovely. I love 'Raff' for short (ignore the spelling) x

DontDeserveAName · 05/10/2014 21:55

I've seen it spelled Ruben and Reuben. It's a gorgeous name I love it.

BooseysMom · 05/10/2014 21:57

Thanks woahmummaaa. I actually had it in my top 10 names for months and it was always near the top or at the top of the list and then when I was in hospital giving birth, all the midwives kept asking what is his name, and I said I don't know yet. In fact, I always called him 'Baboose' whilst I was carrying him! And we still call him it now at 11 months old!! Then suddenly I got fed up of saying this so I just said it's Ruben. My OH had gone home and he could never decide, so I just did it for him!!

I absolutely love the name Ruben.

AnythingNotEverything · 05/10/2014 22:07

Our next one (if we get one!) may very well be a Reuben. Your spelling is unusual but not odd, so don't worry.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 05/10/2014 23:40

I think it's a horrible name, sorry. Just different opinions though, but it's popular for a reason and it's not a name that would cause him any problems so if you like it go for it.

ExitPursuedByABear · 05/10/2014 23:41

Lovely name.

BumpNGrind · 06/10/2014 00:04

Love it

Sophronia · 06/10/2014 14:37

I like it and I prefer the Ruben spelling to Reuben.

BooseysMom · 06/10/2014 19:52

Thanks for all the replies.

Sophronia, I feel the same about the spelling. It is Spanish apparently.

Lol Ohhelpohnoitsa! I love Ruben and Raffy. I can imagine them being a right pair! I might be pregnant again but have to wait to find out.

I've got a Reuben. He is 41, we named him long before it was a fashionable name; I really wanted to call him Rupert but decided it was too pretentious. He always says 'thank God you didn't' when I mention this near miss.

BooseysMom · 08/10/2014 20:08

Hi Trickydecision, your Reuben is a year younger than me! I can't remember it being fashionable ever, but maybe it will come back in now!

I like Reuben/ Ruben - know a few, with both spellings. Raphael is lovely and goes well.

squoosh · 10/10/2014 13:05

Trickydecision I'm in agreement with your 41 year old Reuben re. Rupert!

Trickydecision · 10/10/2014 15:14

Thanks, Squoosh, we are clearly women of taste. booseysmom, that makes me feel ancient. Probably because I am. Smile

BooseysMom · 12/10/2014 20:19

Oops, sorry, Trickydecision, didn't mean to! Blush I'm no spring chicken anyway - I'm an over 40's first time mum

It's a lovely name, though as a mum of a Reuben it looks wrong for me, but it is a valid spelling so that's fine. My Reuben is 10 and has been the only one in his school till this year!

justhayley · 14/10/2014 23:23

I love it & it would have been my DDs name had she been a boy

NoMilkNoSugar · 14/10/2014 23:28

Reuben was on my list, of boys names. Ruben and Rafe - partners in crime, love it.
