Which one do you prefer?

Also what other names might I like if I like those?

Neither Hmm

Mammanat222 · 01/10/2014 13:39

Not overly keen but if I had to pick between the two then it would be Darcy (I'd lose the "E" though)

Dayna is too "Yankee" for my liking (it's another spelling of Dana!)

grocklebox · 01/10/2014 13:43

neither, sorry. And as said above, both spelled wrong (Darcy and Dana).

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/10/2014 13:46

Dana but without the y

TheStrawberryQueen · 01/10/2014 14:17

I actually agree with the spelling thing re: Dayna. But I'm worried that if I go with the traditional Dana spelling then it will be constantly mispronounced in the UK. Dayna clears up any pronouncation problems at least and from the reasing I've been doing it is a legitimate alternative spelling. I could be wrong though.

^that was meant to say reading I've been doing, not reasing.

I really like Darcy, but without the E. Dayna looks clumsy, though I do understand your reasoning.

minkah · 01/10/2014 14:35

Really don't like the name dayna at all. It'd be fine for a product range at ikea, though, so I'm probably BU.

squoosh · 01/10/2014 15:21

Darcy is better than Dayna.

Dayna sounds like big haired, big shoulder padded, sequinned frocked American soap baddie.

pilates · 01/10/2014 15:37

Darcy, Dayna is horrible.

Gemerama82 · 01/10/2014 15:40

I don't like either, but of the two prefer Darcy (no e). I don't really know what names to suggest as clearly we have very different tastes.

scarletforya · 01/10/2014 15:42

I dislike them both but Peyton, Paige, Sydney, Madison etc all fit that genre!

poppydaisy · 01/10/2014 15:50

I don't like either. But of the two prefer Darcey.

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 01/10/2014 15:55

I don't like either too. Darcy deffo better than Darcey. Dana deffo better than Dayna. Dayna is dreadful. I prefer the pronunciation "Darna" too.

callamia · 01/10/2014 16:04

Does Dinah work for you? I kept reading Dayna as Danya. I like Darcy - I think it's quite popular at the moment, but I think it's a lovely name.

Lunastarfish · 01/10/2014 16:08

I like Darcey spelt this way or even better Darcie.

What about Dulcie?

SomeSunnySunday · 01/10/2014 17:08

I quite like Darcey. How about Daryl?

mathanxiety · 01/10/2014 17:17

I dislike both.
There is the unmistakeable 'arse' sound in the middle of Darcey, and Dayna/Dana is madeyuppey and insipid imo.

Like pp^^ I suggest Sydney, which I think is much nicer.

There is also Dara, a unisex Irish name. Enda is another.
Enya/Eithne
Morgan
Avery

mathanxiety · 01/10/2014 17:18

Daria
Darina

CrispyFern · 01/10/2014 17:20

Oh yes Dulcie is nice. Dislike Darcey, there are so many!

Castlemilk · 01/10/2014 22:07

Blythe

and yes to Sydney - a classic.

jazzyjenbo · 01/10/2014 22:15

I will go against the grain and say i like darcy but i actually live dayna.. I have love this name and this spelling since i worked with a girl of this name who is now a high flyer in her career and extreemly beautiful aswell.
I know afew darcy's, it seems very popular atm.

crazylady321 · 01/10/2014 22:21

Our baby girl is going to be a Darcey so would choose that :)

Had very negative comments when I posted on here in fact some quite rude I considered changing but OH is in love with it and we have had nothing but positive opinions in RL so must be one of the hated names amongst mumsnet.

Also if you want the E add the E, Ive never really known another Darcey but there is a couple in the kids school both spelt with the E and I have been online looking at birth announcements when I was choosing names and all the ones I saw were Darcey or Darcie, I dont really see why it matters

AlpacaYourThings · 01/10/2014 22:48

Not keen on either, sorry.

ARabbitAteMyFox · 02/10/2014 20:35

Dana (without the y) is a beautiful name imo. If I ever have a daughter that's what she's going to be called. I hate it spelt Dayna though - it just looks odd to me.

Not really keen on Darcey/Darcy.
