I swear every child under 5 I've met in the past year have been called Jack or Isla. Failing that, Josh or Isabelle.

Lovely names but so bored of them. Anyone else bored of any other names?

What's wrong with lots the same as long as they're good names?

There were four Elizabeths three Sarahs and three Victorias in my form.

So much better than the contortions people ( working and middle class ) go to now to give a unique name.

Why?

grufallosfriend · 13/10/2014 12:11

Why? Because a name is supposed to identify you!

There are enough normal lovely underused names for everyone, without having to make up a name, and without having to pick a top 10 name.

Just did Control F for my 3 kids' names and not one mention [smug]

In Scotland so it may be different. We have a million Findlay/inlays and about as many Lewises. As far as girls go, Anna and Amelia

MumofMartinandLaura · 14/10/2014 13:09

Lots of names ending in the sounds 'ie' or 'a' are very common now.

They do sound nice though.

Me too. I burst out laughing when I read it. I have never understood the sudden rise of these (silly) names.

TheWholeOfTheSpoon · 14/10/2014 15:59

DD's name wasn't even in the top 500 when we named her. It was a name I've liked since I was a kid that also turned out to be a variation of MIL's name. Now its frequently touted on MN as too popular (and has been repeatedly mentioned on this thread). I couldn't give a fig tbh. It suits her.

And going back a few pages, Hunter is a perfectly normal name. I know one 40 year old Hunter and several teenagers. It's not new at all.

Had to laugh (and agree) too!

There are similar boys names that I feel may start to fall out of favour - Alfie, Archie, Ollie, Harry, Charlie - too cutesy imo.

answerthebloodyphone · 15/10/2014 09:39

There are far too many Poppy's and Finley's where I live. Every other little girl I meet is a Poppy and likewise every other little boy I meet is a Finley.

flowerygirl · 15/10/2014 19:56

You're right TheWholeOfTheSpoon Hunter isn't a new name. It's my FIL's middle name and he's in his late 60s. Very cool name! Makes a lot of people think of the wellies though.

Alfie is so overused. It's a meh name to me now.
